Warhammer Online: NDA drop and Beta

PC News | War is coming.
Upcoming fantasy-based MMORPG Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning has finally dropped its non-disclosure agreement for current Closed Beta participants, as players with Warhammer pre-orders gear up for a special quick preview this weekend –
Friday, August 22nd till Monday, August 25th.

All collectors edition and standard edition players who have pre-ordered can now download the game client for free, ready for Friday using the online keys provided while pre-ordering. While just a glimpse, all eligible pre-orders regardless of the edition will be invited into the week long Open Beta starting September 7th, before the game launches worldwide September 18th if all goes according to plan.

Over at Warhammer Alliance, Mythic developer and CEO Mark Jacobs mentioned the main reason for such a long lasting NDA. "We were having some stability and performance problems."

"While a lot of the problems could be traced to our testing of new areas as well as the additional testing load in those areas, the fact remains that we were having more server crashes, crash to desktops and realm versus realm lag than we were used to having."

"Over the last few weeks the team has worked hard on these issues and our CTDs are way, way down and our server crashes are back on a level that is consistent with Mythic's history with Dark Age of Camelot. Overall, we're not all the way there yet but we have every expectation that we will be there in plenty of time for launch."

For those looking to play Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning before it launches, players can still pre-order from Mythic approved retailers:

Harvey Norman
Dicksmith Electronics

Been playing the closed beta for about a week, can't wait for the launch date. Only ran into one annoying bug (a combat message appearing for no reason over and over) that fixed after a restart, but others have encountered had worse.

At the moment, the only thing I really want to see improved is the menu. The new game, character creation etc is utterly spartan, and not in an awesome Kratos way. It's bland and ungainly. Once in the game and playing for a while the flow of the sieges and charm of the game world really wrap you up though.
