Get the Spore Creature Creator free

PC News | Check it out before the full game's release.
Australian gamers living on the East Coast will get a quaint little treat with their Saturday paper. No, it's not some silly commemorative trinket or oldies music CD, but a DVD containing the full version of the Spore Creature Creator. Thanks to Electronic Arts teaming up with east coast publications, anyone who picks up a copy of the Daily Telegraph (NSW), Herald Sun (VIC), or Courier-Mail (QLD) on Saturday August 2, 2008 will score themselves a copy, while the rest will have to wait until the final retail release of the full version.

Originally released last month, the game's online service, Sporepedia, had over 260,000 creatures uploaded withing 24 hours of the release. The Spore Creature Creator allows players to create, customise and design their life forms any way they want. However, this full version will contain 100% of the anatomy options, unlike the 25% that were available at the original release. Finally, those who keep the DVD slips from the game will be eligible for a $15 discount at their local EB Games outlet when the full game is released.

Unfortunately, unless the residents of the non-participating states have a nearby agency that supplies any of the above publications, they'll have to wait until the final release of Spore on September 4. For those who do pick up a copy, we'll appreciate it if you don't sully our poor tortured eyes which still can't forget the aftermath of the original release.

What do you mean you can't forget the aftermath? I haven't been keeping up with Spore until we got a new Mac yesterday.

It's not free for Herald Sun purchasers last I checked. Not only do you have the sting of having to buy a dodgy paper, you also have to drop $2 to get the thing. icon_confused.gif

so..

im getting conflicting information here...

"Australian gamers living on the East Coast will get a quaint little treat with their Saturday paper. No, it's not some silly commemorative trinket or oldies music CD, but a DVD containing the full version of the Spore Creature Creator"

THEN

towards the end of the article..

Finally, those who keep the DVD slips from the game will be eligible for a $15 discount at their local EB Games outlet when the full game is released.

so this is the full version..but not?

It's the full version of the Spore Creature Creator, still need to buy Spore though. The SCC that was released on the net was only a demo with limited things.

Basically, the creature creator lets you create spore creatures, but the full game is the full game. You can't do much with your creatures in the creature creator, but their is a whole game with the full game, with different stages for your spore etc.

Wait, what? I thought the Creature Creator was already a free download?

The free download is a trial, with only 25% of the objects. The paid for one has 100% of the objects.

Yep, the free "demo" was actually a demo of a demo.

If EA thinks this is gonna make me forgive them, they're gonna have to try just a little harder. I live in Perth. :/

Its free with a purchase of the Telegraph in Sydney, I could probably get a few for people so if you can PM me if you're interested I can help you out, I'll just charge the cost of the paper + postage to you.

Um.. wow. That's sad really, especially since people creating creatures is only beneficial for the development of the game.

Luckily I get the paper delivered to my door each day (it costs teachers $10 a year or something stupidly small like that..). Also unluckily those Sunday paper freebies never come with delivered papers.

****.

wait wait wait wait... so is this the full one or not?

Spore - the full Spore game. Build creatures, ships, travel the universe, etcetra, etcetra. To be purchased from a store in September.

Spore Creature Creator - build creatures. Has every single part to be used for creature creation. Doesn't do anything else. Get it with a newspaper tomorrow.

Spore Creature Creator Demo Version - build creatures. Has only 25% of the total number of creature parts. Doesn't do anything else. You can download it for free, as of last month or so.

Understand?

wait wait wait wait... I've been living with teachers my entire life* and we've never got this. Can you please tell me how to get my family to go about this so we aren't paying for the paper 365 days a year. icon_smile.gif

So $2 for the creature creator and $2 for the newspaper...seems a little bit much to play a part of the game 2 months or so earlier, but I'll still probably get it.

*My mother, sister, brother and brother-in-law are teachers, just me and dad who aren't just in case you think I'm living in some sort of 24/7 bording school or have a fetish for spending time with teachers 24/7.

I got the Courier Mail (in Brisbane) and there is no token for spore, and the newsagent had never heard of it.
