Spore Creature Creator trial out now

PC News | And may God help us all.
For those gamers anxiously waiting to get their dirty hands and minds on Will Wright's latest creation, Spore, you can now go a little crazy and make the wait a bit easier, as the Creature Creator trial has been unleashed.

Featuring approximately 25% of the parts that aid in the development of your monstrosity, there is plenty of fun to be had with the demo, and you can show it all off to friends with the ability to take photos of your latest creation, and even record footage of it in the wilderness.

The trial can be found on the official Spore website here. It weighs in at around 200MB and has support for both PC and Mac systems.

Got it a couple of days ago thanks to kotaku. Totally crazy! I love how it adapts to whatever wacky design you've made. Even if you just leave it a blob it still manages to do things...

This thing is evil. So hard to study with it sitting on my desktop.

Honestly cannot wait for this game.

Does anyone know if it will be possible to create your own body parts? Even though there's around 4x as many parts in the full version, I'd still like to be able to expand my "creativity" further.

This thing is great, been playing with the demo for the last couple of days and have enjoyed it enough to become the person I've always hated who pays for parts of games just to get it early.

I think the whole "penis creature" things are pretty immature...

I think the game should work on my PC properly before I start riding Spore's di-gravy train.

For some reason it just goes into "Not Responding" Mode every 5 or so seconds, the only way to fix it is to do a Ctrl+Alt+Del, Select Task Manager, close task manager and repeat. icon_sad.gif

Sucks so bad that the Mac version is CIDER driven. EA needs to get off their arse and make a native running game icon_rolleyes.gif

The creator is quite fun though, I'm looking forward to the full game.

A game I can play on my mac? Has the world turned upside down?

This also happens to me but it seems to not be so bad now for some reason.

It still chucks a spazz and dies every time I try to save something really complex though.

Best you can do is get creative witht he spine. Some people are also deleting feet and hands of limbs and using them as extra body parts. Don't forget you can attach a limb to another limb by holding control down.

I think I'm going to have to make a blob wit a reach of 1km now icon_wink.gif

If anything, I'd rather see less freedom in the creature designer for the full game, so you're constrained to evolve each new species from an existing one, resulting in a planet full of creatures with obviously shared ancestry rather than a bunch of "add more beaks" monsters.

This is probably the intention behind the money mechanic, where you'll only have a limted amount of money for each generation of creature, and presumably be able to earn it by reaching some sort of goals like hunting or mating successfully, or choose to sell off bits you no longer need (is your carnivore now a herbivore? get rid of the clawed hands and add armour)

That is how it works, the initial levels have you as pretty much a single cell organism going around the soup eating smaller things, but avoiding bigger ones. Once you get enough points you can add on a minor amount of features and emerge onto land and so on.

Yeah, the trial's great & all - but how do Australians buy the FULL Creature Creator?

Stupid EA store won't sell outside NthAm, the UK store is equally close-minded... what options are there for us? Do they WANT us to pirate their software?

Direct2Drive.com was the same, only allowing US and Canada, but on the 17th, Direct2Drive.co.uk was allowing Australian purchases. Overnight though, this was "fixed" and it now lets you put your information in, before telling you it's cleared your cart because you're Australian.

So basically yeah, the only way for us to get it now, is to pirate it.

Just had a go with it then, quite good!

Can't wait until the actual game comes out icon_biggrin.gif

I've been playing around with the trial since last night and I've fallen in love with it.

There's just something about playing god and creating my own life forms that does it for me.

I just realised why it's so addictive.

There's no exit button.

Therefore, every time I alt+F4 to get back to study, I feel like I've closed in improperly, and I log back in to embark on the never-ending quest for the cursed EXIT BUTTON.

Very clever, EA, very clever. icon_shifty.gif

Damn, this game looks interesting, but my eMac won't run it. Now all I need is $3000 for that iMac I want. To bad I don't have a job or a source of income. At least until I am 16...

haha, click the options button on the bottom left of the main screen, and a red exit button pops up on the bottom right

^I swear I've tried that, and it has no effect...

It might just be my copy. Trust it to happen to the guy who can't afford to spend time playing the game. icon_razz.gif

Though alt+f4 is pretty efficient anyway. icon_razz.gif

I'm worried about what will happen to me when the game comes out... I'll be slowly evolving all these awesome creatures on my PC, and in the meantime my focus on the game will make me devolve into some unshaven, illiterate Neanderthal. icon_razz.gif

(Ok, 3x icon_razz.gif (4x now) in a post is altogether necessary. Exams must be making me stress worse than I thought. icon_razz.gif ...

ARGH!

[edit] Never mind.

If you're asking what I think you're asking then you should stop right there - no discussion of "how to get illegal and pirated material" please, teh rules forbid it.

Damn i am so buying this game when it comes out ^^. I really loved the demo now the wait! Does anyone know when it comes out?

Looks like anyone keen to get the full Creator early can snag it from the EA NZ store for a cool NZ $14.99. (AUD ~12)

As thieved from Kotaku.
