Crysis Warhead announced

PC News | We did not see this one coming.
EA has announced via a press release that Crysis Warhead is currently in development at Crytek and will be out in just a few months, exclusively for the PC. The game is being developed on a new, enhanced and optimized version of Cryteks Cryengine 2 technology.

“We were very pleased with the reception of Crysis from both gamers and media after our launch last year,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “That being said, one of the key principles of our studio is to always raise the bar. With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis.”

“The best result of a partnership that we can ask for in the EA Partners program is when a world class independent studio like Crytek chooses to continue to work with us,” said David DeMartini, Vice President and Global General Manager, EA Partners. “Crysis was an amazing game and is going to be a blockbuster franchise. We could not be more excited to be working with Crytek to launch another hit with Crysis Warhead this year.”

In Crysis Warhead players will don the nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, who is also known as Psycho. Players will experience Psycho's parallel story during the events of the original game. Crysis Warhead will apparently also feature brand new multiplayer content, which will be announced at a later date.

i wonder if optimised version of cryengine 2 means it will run smoothly on something that isnt a supercomputer

More Crysis = AWESOME.

And the fact that we get to play as Jason Statham aka Psycho, I'm even more pumped.

Plus optimized and improved CE2 engine is good to hear. Crysis runs great on my system as it is at highest settings, but it should be even better with even more optimizations.

I loved Crysis, so yes this is good news.. but it sounds like more of an expansion pack (since it rehashes the events of the first game). Kind of like Blue Shift or Opposing Force to Half-Life.

At least Crytek are showing more PC love. Guess this explains why they dropped support for Crysis already (although I can't see why they wouldn't bother backporting all the optimisations they've made to the engine for Warhead..)

Wow.

This is a very, very interesting development.

I've long felt that CryEngine 2.0 should be making bigger splashes than it's current tiny ripples, and this is certainly a step towards that.

Reminds me somewhat of the Witcher Enhanced - with patches being so difficult and unrewarding for many games, I hereby predict that there will be a growing trend for developers to produce refined versions of their games. That way they can reuse artwork and other resources, while still producing new plots and gameplay.

If nothing else, it's a good way to ensure that the enormous effort that goes into designing game-creating tools (which is time that doesn't go towards the game itself) actually produces a larger output.

How well it works remains to be seen, but the potential is surely there.

I also hope this one works way better, Crysis played like a dog on my pc for some old reason, and I dont mean just performance.

I doubt the engine will run that much better - the so-called "optimisation" is merely the result of the average PC power increasing over the last 6 months.

Thought tbh, even at low settings Crysis looks heavenly.

Awesome. Since getting a 9800GTX I'm itching to run some more eye candy on it after finishing Crysis.

I'm playing Crysis at the moment on my PC and it plays and looks great (high settings). The game is very interesting and based on what i've played so far in the current game, I expect the next one to be as good.

"Crysis Warhead is the first title to be developed at Crytek´s Budapest studio." Fail icon_sad.gif

Didn't Crytek mention not too long ago that they were no longer developing PC exclusive titles after the disappointing market performance of Crysis?

Warhead is PC only and it's more Crysis. This seems a little contradictory given that earlier statement...

Either way, after playing Crysis on our gaming Pc at work, I need to get myself a good gaming rig.

Damn, more money.
