Pirates of the Burning Sea servers shut down

PC News | Bad news for the MMO?
According to BurningSea.com 7 servers for Pirates of the Burning Sea have been shut down. The game originally contained 11 servers, but that number has now been reduced to four.

Players are being forced to transfer their characters to the four servers of Antigua, Blackbeard, Rackham, or Roberts. Apparantly, the closures are to improve the population on the four servers. The Pirates of the Burning Sea team believe that the closures will allow for the game to "function at more optimum levels."

I don't think I've seen a MMORPG downsize their servers so quickly after release.

Tsk - This is something the majority of the player base has been asking for for quite some time. Of course, now that it's here a lot of them are bitching about getting what they asked for, but that's MMO players for you. The servers that closed had the smallest populations - heck, two of them were french and spanish language servers. Some of them had barely 50 people online at times, too few for the core of the game (realm v realm and the awesome economics) to work.

I just signed up for this last night (thanks to the free disc on Atomic), I figure I will give it a try for a month and see how it goes?
