Speaking with 3D Realms co-founder Scott Miller, the Dallas Business Journal managed to wring a couple of tantalising, if vague, comments on the cursed project, including speculation on 'possible' Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Duke Nukem Forever, along with the "confident" statement of the game seeing a release later this year -- even though the Dallas Business Journal nor Miller himself makes no mention of any sort of specific release window.
"We may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we're on target this time," said Miller. "We haven't formally announced any platforms for DNF... but, of course hitting the big three makes the most sense (PC, PS3, 360)."
While we're not ones to immediately question why a predominantly mainstream outlet such as the Dallas Business Journal would be in possession of such information, it appears its reports were slightly askew, if 3D Realms' denouncements of the article to Shacknews and on its official forums are to be believed.
"In what appears to be an unfortunate turn of events, there seems to have been some confusion between what was 'off the record' and what was not," posts 3D Realms co-founder George Broussard. "I suppose we're used to dealing with gaming press and not mainstream press. Lesson learned."
"The release date is still 'when it's done', and will be until the appropriate moment. Platforms have not been finalized or announced."
Lost in the mass ramblings of both parties was information on the oft-rumoured Xbox Live Arcade port of Duke Nukem 3D. While the Dallas Business Journal has slightly edited information from its original article pertaining to Duke Nukem Forever, Miller's adamant comments of a 2008 XBLA release of Duke Nukem 3D remain. With promises of achievements, co-op and online multiplayer modes, the 12-year-old classic may yet still entice both young and old to "hail to the king".
