3DMark creator opens dev studio

PC News | Futuremark Games Studio to create IP.
Futuremark Corporation has announced that it is establishing its own dedicated development house, Futuremark Games Studio. The studio 'is committed to developing original IP games with the highest quality gameplay combined with our established track record of creating blow-your-socks-off visuals', according to CEO of Futuremark, Tero Sarkkinen.

A game is apparently already in development at the studio, though its name and nature are yet to be announced. The developers have stated that they will produce games for all levels of hardware, not just high-end machines - 'This includes games and their engines that deliver stellar performance even on modest platforms right up to the most enthusiastic levels of performance hardware'.

The press release and this sub-site suggest Futuremark Games Studio will be operating in both Europe and the US. The studio will apparently have a presence at GDC 2008.

Futuremark is best known for its 3DMark software, used to benchmark the 3D processing capabilities of a PC, and ORB, which can be used to compare your system with millions of others. Thirty-five million plus copies of 3DMark have been distributed worldwide.

Good God. And people thought that Crysis was ahead of it's time. If theses guys start making games they'll sit on the shelf for 6 months before they're even playable on a PC.

It's going to be a sweet looking game though, I just hope it's not all style over substance and that they don't go the boring "plastic, big buff m-f-er" look.

I thought the Proxycon demos would have translated into a pretty cool game, myself. Sounds good to me.

I think the difference is, these guys know exactly what the majority of hardware "gamers" use so they can target their games accordingly, not to mention they probably know hardware better than most other studios.

This will probably be good, as long as they don't make the entire game run off that dreaded CPU test icon_eek.gif
