Red Steel 2 finally confirmed

Wii News | It's about time.
A sequel to Ubisoft's Wii launch title Red Steel has seemed like a certainty since the first game debuted. Back in June, Ubisoft confirmed the game was on the way, but then quickly unconfirmed the title. Since then, we've heard nothing about the game - until today.

Gaming Target has stated that Issue 26 of the UK based official Nintendo Magazine finally confirms that Ubisoft is working on Red Steel 2 for release sometime in 2008.

According to a preview in the magazine, the game will feature "better controls, better AI, better multiplayer and online play". Expect the first screenshots to come forth shortly, probably sometime early in the new year.

The first Red Steel had some good ideas, if they iron out the issues, which it looks like they are, the sequel could be something quite special indeed icon_smile.gif

Looking forward to hearing more about it icon_smile.gif

I hope they put alot more work into the sword play controls. It was the big sell of the game, and really came up short. I'd like to see more player movement during the fights, instead of just circling your enemy

Hopefully this time Ubisoft will diliver a more polished and complete product.

I hope the levels are better in the sequel
running through warehouses and docks isn't fun anymore, inf act is hasn't been fun since the 20 billionth time it was done!
some actual cut scenes would be nice also, no more pictures

What else are they going to do? Run through jungles? Oh, that's already been done. Run through space ports? Oh wait, that's been done. Run through other worlds? Oh wait, that's been done. I know! We can run under the sea shooting enemies!

The first one was pretty decent apart from the forced sword play, graphically it was doing some really nice stuff so hopefully this might look even better, we need some decent looking Wii games.

Ive been wanting to try the original ever since it was released despite the horrid reviews but it seems that the sequel will be the perfect place to start icon_wink.gif

well ive always said red steel has an excellent premise but it just didnt deliver, even though the gun aiming was horrid i was still able to use it it was only the sword controls that i hated, i think they will have learned from their mistakes and red steel 2 will deliver what the first failed at.... i hope, then again i could just be dissapointed again icon_confused.gif

Red Steel was alright, it was just a bunch of good ideas that didn't mix really.

Im interested to see how they pan this one out though :]

Hopefully they were planning on using that Unreal engine for Red Steel 2!

Surely Ubisoft won't stuff this up.

Ubisoft have the creative energy and talent to deliver on what they wanted to create with the original Red Steel with this sequel. It all just comes down to if they care enough to make it a worthwhile investment for us "hardcore" gamers.

Despite the bad reviews I really did enjoy the original Red Steel. I hope that the sequel gets it right.

I think Red Steel had "launch title"itis. In that it ended up being a bit rushed, now, with some time under their belts the second title should be a decent addition to any collection, at least that's how it should be.

Now with great examples of Wii technology utilized this may come out to be really good

I liked the original Red Steel, it was far from perfect, but I feel many media outlets were a little harsh on it - mind you, I haven't played excessive amounts of first person shooters so it probably didn't feel as generic to me.

Hopefully they include some online mutiplayer. icon_smile.gif I do hope however they have a better soundtrack, the original sounded like an adult film, particually the track which had those "moans" in it.

I enjoyed Red Steel. I thought the sword fighting was a little easy. Mainly, you just had to shake the Wii remote constantly to win. Apart from that there was nothing really bad about it I found.

i liked the first game and if people played 4 player mission thing in multi player that was fun me and my friends had played that for hours. The thing i lived most about red steel was when u killed most enemies their legs and such were twitching icon_lol.gif

Oh and when they (Ubisoft) do stuff something up, they are incredibly prompt at gathering a "head count" of how many people have the problem, yet refuse to patch or correct it in any way, despite numerous exact complaints..

My faith in Ubi has completely diminished as a result of how they handled the abomination that was Splinter Cell: Double Agent on PC. Ie.. ignored it.

Right?

I didn't really like the original. Past the (flawed) motion controls, it was very average compared to so many other, better FPS games out there at the time (and probably a fair few years before its time as well).

On the bright side, it means there is more potential for Ubisoft to improve. "better controls, better AI, better multiplayer and online play" is a pretty reasonable target.
