Last month the software charts were dominated by Guitar Hero, but while Activision's music monster returned on PS2 and Wii, this months multi-platform releases and a certain space travelling plumber made their mark on the charts. Call of Duty 4 for Xbox 360 was the sales champ for the month, and the PS3 version also charted at number seven. Similar story with Assassin's Creed, which came in third on 360 and tenth on PS3. Wii exclusive Super Mario Galaxy was Nintendo's software champ, selling over a million units in its debut month, more then Super Mario Sunshine sold in its first four months combined.
In terms of hardware sales, The DS was the undisputed champion, selling 1.53 million units over the period, a figure we believe is a new record for gaming hardware of any type for a single month in the US. Next up, the Wii continued its pace, but didn't quite make a million for the month, selling 981,000 consoles. the Xbox 360 retained third place with 770,000, and the PS3 picked up some steam from its second major price cut, selling 466,000 for the month. PSP and PS2 sold 567,000 and 496,000 respectively, and GBA numbers were not released publicly by NPD this month.
