Early 2008 Smash Bros hope is not lost

Wii News | May still be due out before the end of Q2...
Yesterday we reported that Super Smash Bros. Brawl was not included as part of Nintendo's European release schedule, which featured release dates for titles all the way up to June 2008. Given that the US release date is still set for early 2008, European and Aussie gamers alike were upset to see that they were seemingly once again missing out.

CVG reports that Nintendo has attempted to rectify this previous news with the following statement: "The Nintendo 1st & 3rd party Software lineup release schedule which was distributed by Nintendo on Thursday 6th December confirmed launch dates for Nintendo titles launching in Q1 2008. Nintendo also included some titles which were fixed for release beyond Q1 2008 such as Mario Kart Wii. All Nintendo software titles launching in Q2 2008 have not been finalised or confirmed to date. Nintendo will communicate on all software titles launching in Q2 2008 for Wii and Nintendo DS at a later date"

So it looks like Super Smash Bros. Brawl could indeed arrive before June after all... or is it just Nintendo damage control? We'll find out soon enough.

I will take Q2, purely because its not Q3, but we got Galaxy worldwide in a month - Brawl (all games actually) should be the same.

Despite not having a Wii, I can't wait for this. I may convince my sister to get a Wii just for this game.

As good as mario cart was on 64, I still loved smash bros more than any other game for ages. Innocent fun for the whole family, if by "Innocent" you mean "unrelenting", and by fun you mean "bloodshed". icon_razz.gif

I was pretty bad at it, but it was one of the games where you don't care that you died because it's just so damn enjoyable to watch. icon_biggrin.gif

I somehow think it's one of 2 things

1) Somebody stuffed up and it should have been in the list
2) It wont get released Early 08 and they are putting off PAL backlash, as they know people are going to get VERY hot if Brawl gets put off for 6 months here

Somehow I think it's just Nintendo Europe/Australia treating it like Melee.

They're not in a rush, it's only the sequel to the highest-selling game on the Gamecube, it's not like they're going to miss out on any money.

I think the whole thing was a case of Nintendo not having the list of Q2 games ready yet, only Mario Kart was listed for Q2, and you'd think that Nintebdo would release something else besides Mario Kart during that time, like Fire Emblem Wii, a game already out in Japan/US.

But they are fully aware that they are pissing of ALOT of people.

It's funny we keep being loyal to the product despite they treat us like crap (guess its because they do make good games in the end)

It really makes me wonder sometimes, thinking back to the good old days when Melee (one of the best games on the console) was a launch title for the Gamecube. Looks like it's gotten harder to make a Smash Bros. game.

Technically it wasn't - it was a couple of weeks later than launch.

Also Melee was rushed - hence the clones and stuff.

Well, close enough. icon_smile.gif I'm not sure if you'd call Melee rushed exactly, it's very solid and well made, a lot of fighters have clones (though it is true that Melee had a fair few), and people are still playing the game today. If that was a rushed game, imagine one that isn't rushed! Looks like Brawl will be that game, looking to improve on Melee in every way. I guess its just been so long since Melee was released, it's hard to keep waiting and waiting.

Its been said multiple times the clones were there rather than original content as he ran out of time. Both SSB and SSBM were supposed to have other characters too, apparently. So hopefully this time everything Sakurai wants in gets in.
