Smash Bros. Brawl to feature level creator

Wii News | Send your levels to a friends as well.
Could Nintendo's flagship brawler be taking cues from Halo 3? On top of the recent announcement that Super Smash Bros. Brawl would feature a replay function, it was today revealed on creator Masahiro Sakurai's blog that the game will allow user-created levels.

Extensive control over level creation will be featured in the game, with users able to select background images, stage music and level size before continuing on to create unique designs for brawls. The mode is compatible with the Nintendo Wii's SD card function, so creative gamers need not worry about lack of space for their levels.

Unprecedented Wi-Fi functionality was also announced for the mode, with users being able to send custom levels to friends. Additionally, Nintendo will offer downloadable user-created stages for the game. Players will be able to submit their creations to Nintendo, with one stage being selected to be sent to all Smash Bros. players per day. Sakurai added that this system will be constantly evolving. "The plan is for that stage to vanish once one day has passed. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime encounter."

Sakurai was hopeful that the mode will add to the game's life-span, stating that, "those who enjoy a little effort may be able to enjoy this stage builder for the rest of their lives."

dont like the 1 a day idea, unless you can save the really good ones, but this is such a great addition, imo. would be so much fun, being able to create your own place to smash others around on

FRICK!

This game is sounding like one of the greatest and most feature-rich ever.

A (seemingly) robust single player mode, both co-op and competitive online multiplayer, the greatest roster of Nintendo and third party icons ever, amazing music spanning many games and decades, fairly lovely visuals, a level creator, a video recorder, and who knows what else.

I officially cannot WAIT for Super Smash Bros. Brawl...

There's almost no way this game can fail, in my eyes...it just sounds better every day.

Great to see they're making good use of the wonderful storage medium that is the DVD (4 music tracks per stage? why the hell not?).

Didn't level creators came out long before H3 ... the distribution method sounds like it's taking cues from LittleBigPlanet.

game of the forever.

Also, Bramble Blast confirmed for music. Best video game song ever. Look it up on youtube.

On a completely, totally unrelated note, can someone tell me when palgn is going to announce the winners of that Medal of Honor Xbox 360 competition icon_razz.gif

Indeed! Donkey Kong Country 2 has one of the greatest soundtracks in gaming and is always overlooked - so many fantastic tracks. I totally love the boss music and the final K. Rool music.

Anyone who hasn't got DKC 2 on Virtual Console should get it now...I totally want it!

Sure, they absolutely did. The comment was designed primarily as a 'catch' as Halo 3 is fresh in everybody's minds, but also because Smash also features a playback function and developer-selected user-content, which many saw as making Halo 3 unique. icon_smile.gif

Wow, I'm impressed.

Now fix up those friends code!

Does this indicate that we're moving towards playing VC games etc straight from the SD cards? I hope so

You SAID IT!

I've only played a smash game for 5 minutes total (Melee) and left unimpressed, this is getting better every single press release. Im really looking forward to this.

Hmmm...well, if you didn't enjoy the basic gameplay of Melee I have a sneaking suspicion that Brawl won't set your world on fire either.

To me it just looks like a refined, super-content-heavy version of Melee...

...of course, Melee is one of the best fighters ever made, so you dang well should like it, icon_razz.gif icon_razz.gif

Seeing as how Melee managed to get me to play for over 200 hours without too much in the way of Multiplayer sessions, this game shall keep me occupied for a long, long time. I can't wait.

I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to buy a Wii for SSBB until now.

That is so freaking awesome.

I wouldn't put Halo 3 in the same league as SSBB.I'm going to buy a Wii just for this game but I wouldn't buy Halo 3 even if I did own a 360.This game actually deserves the hype.

Not only does that say more about your tastes than it does about Halo 3 as a game, you're missing the point. Halo 3 was one of the first console games to integrate user-created content with online file sharing, and pull it off really well.

While definately a step in the same direction, Brawl actually falls short in this department if you consider Halo 3's file sharing, stat tracking, as well as how long you can record for and how much you can save to storage.

My tastes are no better or worse than anyone else's.So don't say ignorant things like that just because I don't like a specific series.I don't like Halo because it gets WAY more hype and praise than it deserves. That's also part of the reason I hate 360.

I own a PS3, PSP and will soon own a DS (I have one and NSMB on lay-buy). Like I said I'll also buy a Wii when this game comes out so obviously I have a very wide array of tastes.I don't say anything about other peoples tastes when I disagree with them and it really annoys me when people do.

I don't think they were saying you have bad taste, Gamesta. Just that different people like different things. Just because Brawl is a system seller/Must-have-title to you dosent mean it is to someone who considered Halo 3 a system seller/Must Have.

Lovin the idea of the level builder in this. Games going to be fantastic

Point out where I said your tastes were any less valid than mine, or anyone elses. They aren't. I was making the point that which game is better is irrelevant to what Maikii was saying (and is ultimately a question of taste. You hate an entire platform, that's fine with me).

For the record, I consider both Halo 3 and Brawl to be must-have titles.

WTF, way to read out of context. What does this have to do with the actual game itself?, it's about this feature.

Can we please go back on subject.

Don't worry about me, there's reasons why I blow things out of proportion, or interpret things the wrong (reasons which I don't want to talk about).
