Virtual Console updated

Wii News | Everyone's favourite dinosaur makes his mark.
It's Friday again and as usual, Nintendo Australia have updated the Wii Shop. This week, sees the release of Yoshi's Story for the Nintendo 64, Super Air Zonk for the TurboGrafx and the NeoGeo title, Magician Lord.

In Yoshi's Story, Baby Bowser steals the Super Happy Tree and turns Yoshi's Island into a story book. Taking control of mutiple Yoshis, you traverse through each level with the objective of eating a certain amount of fruit. The game will set you back 1,000 Wii points.

Super Air Zonk, a sidescrolling shooter, is a spin off game to the popular Bonk series and will set you back 800 Wii points.

Finally, Magician Lord follows the story of Elta, a wizard who goes on a quest to save his home from the evil Gul-Agieze. Gul-Agieze plans to conquer the world by using the eight tomes of mystical power to resurrect the god of destruction. The game will set you back 900 points.

Theme song for Yoshi's story is strangely addicting, even though it sounds like the chipmunks mumbling.

So is Yoshi's Story worth the grab? I loved Yoshi's Island immensely on the Super NES, but heard the N64 game was utter kiddy crap.

PS: renegadesx, don't forget to pickup some Wii Points cards! icon_razz.gif

Yoshi Story isn't as good as Yoshi's Island, but it's still a decent 2D platformer. All you really have to do to get to the next level is eat a certain amount of fruit. I think it's 30 or 40 you have to eat. Here's the catch though, each Yoshi (you can pick a certain colour before you start a level) has a favourite fruit which will give you more points. Do these points do anything? Not really. But it's fun to try and beat your previous records and the like.

I probably should mention Baby Mario isn't in this game (although I think he was mentioned in the manual for the N64 version).

What I liked about this game was that it had a lot of charm. It was... well, cute. I was a lot younger when this was released so it would be interesting to see if it still holds its charm or not. Be warned though, the game is easy which I know many people don't like about it. I'm still tempted to download this but I have no Wii points and still haven't finished Paper Mario (VC).

Damn it for a second there I thought they'd dropped Yoshi's Island and I was just about to rush out and buy some more points. I guess this is better, actually - save YI for later when we've got nothing to play.

I think they were both brilliant, mind you I slightly prefered this one. The only gripe I had with it was it was too easy.

Is the Wii able to emulate Super FX Chip games? Im yet to see any released via Virtual Console. If there is a problem emulating it, we may never see Yoshi's Island playing through a Wii.

Definitely a purchase for me, used to love it when I was little but it was pretty easy back then so it'll probably be super easy now but it's a Yoshi game, so I have to buy it.

Anyway, speaking of the Chipmunks

You'd think that if they can pretty much perfectly emulate theN64 they shouldn't have any problems with theSNES whatsoever

I also thought it was Yoshi's Island, saw the price, thought "what the... 1000 points?" and then realised it was Yoshi's Story. I had fun with it for a rental (and as one of the rfirst N64 games I payed), but never picked it up. Now I have!

The point ((as far as I can tell) is to play through multiple times to get all the levels, and then to beat your high score.
