Wii Guitar Hero III online after all

Wii News | No downloadable content, however. Yet.
In an interview last week with Pro-G, RedOctane's president Kai Huang dropped a bombshell by stating that as far a Guitar Hero III is concerned, "There is online for the PS3 and Xbox 360. There won't be online initially for the Wii, but we are working with Nintendo to see how we can get those features in."

Despite being a pretty straightforward and definitive statement, the devil was apparently in the detail - subsequent to the largely unhappy reactions online, RedOctane has since been in contact with 1UP to clarify exactly what Huang meant when he said there wouldn't be "online" for the Wii.

Apparently, by "online", Huang actually meant "downloadable content". While the 360 and the PlayStation 3 will offer additional downloadable content at a price yet to be announced, no such offering will be available at launch for the Wii. The lack of large amounts of internal storage and the relative immaturity of WiiWare may make a similar offering somewhat difficult on the Wii. However, while RedOctane is continuing to work with Nintendo to try and make a common offering across all next-gen platforms, nothing will be available at launch.

On a much happier note, RedOctane also specifically clarified that the Wii will offer online competitive play out of the box, news that is likely to make Wii owners much happier.

Well hey, thats much better! While I myself likely wouldn't use it, its good to see the Wii online capability finally getting a showing in games.

The lack of DLC is a shame (not so much if the pricing stays the same as with GH2), but entirely understandable.

Storage is a big issue, and Nintendo shrugs off the idea of an external Hard drive because you can delete the content and download it again free of charge, that's not the point Nintendo. And with no update to play your files directly from your SD card, it is really frustating.

I guess we can only hope that that update comes with Guitar Hero III...

Well the whole storage issue was obviously going to become a problem in the future for nintendo, i'm just curious to how they are going to resolve this issue, hopefully it won't lead to RedOctane having to keep publishing new disc's for the Wii if storage can't be obtained.

I won't be surprised if the Music Files on the DLC Are lower quality, because of the Audio System the Wii uses.

Yeah, the space is a big problem on the Wii, I reckon eventually they will release a hard drive, but for now we will just have to wait and see.
