Harvey Birdman coming to Wii

Wii News | Capcom brings us Mentok the Mii-taker.
When Capcom announced the Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law license would be coming to PlayStation 2 and PSP in a Phoenix Wright inspired adventure game, many were puzzled at the lack of a DS version. Previously a Japan only GBA series, the Phoenix Wright games have become runaway hits since moving to the DS and being released in western markets, and since Capcom were behind those games as well it seemed odd they wouldn't capitalise on the market they created.

Well, while there's still no mention of a DS title, Capcom have just announced that the game will also be coming to possibly the next best console in terms of adventure game interfaces. There was no mention in the press release of specific Wii features, but we assume the Wii Remote's pointer functionality will be used to make point and click adventuring somewhat more intuitive then a regular controller. Developer High Voltage doesn't exactly have a great track record for licenced games, so we hope Capcom keeps them on a short leash with this one.

Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law for Wii will ship in the US on November 13, the same date as the Sony versions. All three versions will be semi-budget priced, with the Sony versions priced at US$29.95 and the Wii version at US$39.95. No mention of PAL release dates or prices yet.

Best news all day. I was annoyed that I wouldn't get to check this one out. Now all we need is a PAL release date.

The main reason this isn't on the DS would probably be because of all the dialog. The game looks to have as much speech as the cartoon its based on.

If this does well, can we expect a Phoenix Wright Wii adaptation to follow? If so, we could be looking at the Wii finally reaching its full potential - standing up mid game, arm extended, hand holding wiimote with pointer finger extended over top and shouting "OBJECTION!"

I mean, there's no point in anybody ever making any other games after that. Gaming just would not get any better.

This was so obviously going to happen (in fact didn't I, and many others, call it when the game was first announced?) but that doesn't make it any less awesome.

Great news.
