Wii passes one million sold in the UK

Wii News | Becoming the region's fastest selling console in the process.
According to an article on Eurogamer, the Wii has officially sold 1 million units in the UK, just 38 weeks since its launch in early December. This milestone also means the Wii has become the region's fastest selling console in UK history - it took the PlayStation 2 50 weeks to reach the same number sold, and the closest current competitor, the Xbox 360, took 60 weeks to hit the same milestone.

The data was released by UK tracking firm Chart Track, who aslo revealed that the Wii now has an estimated 68% hold on the UK home console market. Not to be outdone by its younger brother, the Nintendo DS continues to sell equally well and holds an estimated 86% hold on the UK handheld market.

"The non-stop demand for Wii even in the traditionally slow sales periods for videogames in the UK is clearly behind this record-breaking achievement," Nintendo UK boss, David Yarnton, stated. "The performance of both systems appears to indicate that unprecedented interactive entertainment experiences, provided by a combination of the revolutionary nature of DS and Wii with the increasing number of unique software titles for the system from Nintendo and third parties, are being enjoyed by both avid and new gamers of all ages."

All these records and no games.

I'm just wondering how long they can hold onto the *real gamers before they move off to another system, I can only let my Wii gather dust for so long tbh.

*hardcore, non-casual or w/e you want to call us

I'd wager that very little of that 1 million are 'real gamers' anyway.

Obviously.

So then whats your point?

Wait a second there, are you telling me there's meant to be a point to posts?

Well for someone who has a spider pig sig I suppose I have to explain it.

Ooooh. I got burned. ...Wait, no I didn't. That made as little sense as your initial post, which, despite a thesaurus like listing of what a 'real' gamer is (I got that), still fails to actually be relevant to the topic. (lol Wii has no hardcore games, PS3 has no games at all, 360 breaks all the time, etc)

God you're a retard, and the spider pig sig comment is now clearly backed up.

The Wii is setting a shit load of records left right and centre, yet nearly a year into it's life there's like three good games.

Now that they have such a large user base, as we all now know from all these records, when are they going to stop jerking the the non-casual gamer around and put out some decent games.

What happened to No More Heroes? Sadness? And a bunch of other promising games? The GC had them so why doesn't the Wii?

Who cares about setting records when there's nothing to back it up.

Bitter tears.

At the end of 07, the Wii will have a much better lineup than the GC did at the end of 02.

I can't believe you thought Sadness was a real game. Lolololol.

Now here you are calling DIU a retard, which is against the forum rules, and saying that he doesn't understand your point when you obviously don't understand his. The fact is that Nintendo don't give a flying bat crap about hardcore gamers and games for them as long as the Wii is selling the way it is. They aren't going to stop jerking around the non-casuals because the audience they are trying to get is the CASUAL gamers and not the NON-casuals.

So yeah try understanding someone elses point before you personally attack them for not understanding your own.

BURN!

Hey, lets just stop making games for casual gamers (who we aimed and marketed this console at) and focus on games for hardcore gamers, what got us into this situation in the first place..

Makes sense doesn't it?!

DIU a retard? That'll be the day.

And how is that not reflected in my first post? Please read the whole thread before you come in "burning" people.

I really didn't think the point of my first post was this abstract, but perhaps I should've elaborated from the beginning.

icon_lol.gif Brad, you have no idea about Wii and it's games. The funny thing is that there is gonna be a new No More Heroes trailer out tonight (or tommorow), and there are updates on its site. What happened to NMH?... nothing.

And it'll still pale in comparision to the other 3 platforms.

Hey, you may get enjoyment out of watching sales figures, but the rest of us don't care too much.

And hell, I agree with this.

In fact, the only thing I disagree with is using Sadness as an example of quality gaming (quick tip: it doesn't exist). I just still don't get how your comments actually have anything to do with the topic at hand. The 1 million sold would have been mostly sold to casuals, so whether or not Bioshock 2: Electric Plasmid Boogaloo appears on the Wii doesn't really matter.

Well I was keeping an eye out for it at E3 and LGC and haven't heard anything, so I'm glad it's still in development.

Trailer up yet?

lawl at Sadness...icon_sad.gif

Worst. Gag. Ever.

Really don't get me started on the Simpson's movie or I'll go even more astray ITT.

I love it how you forget how the little PS2 and 360 started. Crap games, high sales, no sense of good games coming. Its all the same.

Anyone who judges any console by their current status is dumb.

Umm I seem to remember a speech by that Reggie character mentioning that although they're expanding into the casual market they aren't going to neglect the hardcore gamers either.

And thank you for assuming Nintendo's position, like you know what their plan is.

i remember reading somewhere nintendo (at the moment) aren't going to concentrate too much on games for the mainstream masses, just games that are original and different...
..it seems to work well with playstation with their eye toy, singstar and buzz franchises
