Monster Lab announced

Wii News | The next Pokémon?
Eidos and Backbone Entertainment have revealed that they'll be bringing a new Pokémon-style RPG to the Wii called Monster Lab. The game centres around a bunch of annoying monsters who go around scaring people and generally cause havoc where ever they go. Growing tired of the constant chaos, Professor Fuseless sets out to put a stop to the monsters once and for all.

Monster Lab's main gameplay focus will apparently be on turn-based battles and the ability to customise your monsters by using body parts you collect throughout your travels. There will also be roughly 150 (now where have we heard this number before?) "types" of monsters as well as over 100 million possible variations to create.

Edios have also confirmed that there will be several mini-games included in the game, all of which will utilise the Wii remote and Nunchuck in different ways. Arguably though, the bigger announcement comes from the promise that the title will feature online play. How this will be implemented is unclear at this stage, but we wouldn't be all too surprised if you could trade and battle your monsters given the similarities to Pokémon.

Monster Lab is currently scheduled for a June 2008 release worldwide. As always, we'll report back once new information becomes available.

Sounds interesting, I mean, wouldn't pikachu be so much cooler if you could rip off his limbs and ... well ... no, I don't think it needs to get any better than that.

You'll know it's a blatent rip when they announce it'll come in 2 versions each exactly the same except for the 10 "exlusive" mosters in each version that aren't in the other icon_wink.gif

Actually, now that I think about it, the swapping limbs thing - wasn't there some kind of kids game a while back that was like that? it had a scissors/paper/rock kind of battle system, and there were 3 versions of it (each version had about 1/3 of the parts) and you could battle, and choose a part to take off the opponent if you won?

Whatever happened to Spectrobes being the next Pokemon?

Hopefully this pushes the envelope and gets Nintendo to step up the plate with a *proper* 3D RPG Pokemon for the Wii.

nah, I found it - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-O-X

was a big swing-and-miss thing, one notable thing I remember about it was that the american ad had a comet going down near the twin towers (was probably aired about 2 months before the 11th)

This sounds good.

I like the art style. I'll keep an eye on it.
