LGC 07: Top Spin coming to the Wii

Wii News | An all new title built from the ground up.
Kotaku is reporting that 2K Sports is bringing their popular Top Spin franchise to the Wii. The game won't be a remake of the upcoming Top Spin 3 but rather a completely new title built from the ground up for the Wii.

The game will use both the nunchuk and the Wii remote in a similar fashion to the tennis game found in Wii Sports. The nunchuk will control movement whereas the remote will control whether or not you actually hit the ball over the net. The game will support up to four players with singles, doubles, mixed and non mixed matches available. Exhibitions and tournaments will also be included with more than 12 real life Tennis stars featuring in the game. Party games will also be included.

Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K, said: "We are excited to bring our popular Top Spin series to the Wii. Given the Wii’s unique controllers and the fun family-oriented gameplay, Top Spin Tennis effectively bridges the gap between a sports and a party game."

Good to see a quality title is coming to Wii and built from the ground up is great, but I worry about the functionality of using both the nunchuck and the wiimote..
Wasn't there a party game in something like Monkey Ball that tried tennis like that and it was so difficult to control the character around the screen and then swing the raquet.
Here's hoping they can do it.

Eh, I appreciate the gesture... but I'll wait for a Virtua Tennis, or a Mario Tennis, that uses the same control scheme. Top Spin never did it for me, just wasn't quite arcadey enough and lacked the fast paced twitchy-ness of Virtua/Mario.

Its great to see some promising titles rear their heads on the Wii. Let the good times roll and good luck to 2K Games. Here's hoping for a solid and innovative tennis game for the Wii!

Sweet, Top Spin is allways fun with mates. Will definatly get a rent at least, allthough I do have some doubts not waether they can pull it off, but weather they will bother too.
