Virtual Console update

Wii News | Waves come crashing onto the Wii Shop Channel.
This Friday's Virtual Console update sees the release of Nintendo 64 racer classic, Wave Race 64 for the usual 1,000 points. Those that played the original may notice a few differences in the game, mainly the old Kawasaki banners having been removed (presumably due to an expired licensing agreement) and replaced with Wii and Nintendo DS advertisements.

Additionally, Galaga '90, Cratermaze and Drop Off, three TurboGrafx-16 titles, are available for 600 points each.

Check back each Wednesday for our Virtual Console review series, click here for the latest.

Hrmm, not much on offer there.

When are the Neo Geo games hitting Japan. Didn't they say summer?

Hasn't dances been whining since like, forever, about wave race?

I made them release it dances.Just for you.

It's still one of the few games i've never played for the 64.Didn't look anything special when i saw the kids on 'Amazing' playing it.Probably because the only 'special' things on that show were the contestants themselves.

Hey Jibbs, Tranformers was awesome.

Definatly try out Wave Race Jibbs, its a terrific game (don't know how it holds up though...). Or you could find Blue Storm for $30 and play that, definatly the better option.

Holds up great imo, bought it a few months ago, best $10 I've spent in a while. Its amazing what they did so early on in the 64s lifespan, controls like a dream and of course the great water effects. I've played it heaps over the last few months.

Then again, Blue Storm may be the better option like Qbert said, $15 extra for better graphics, sounds, a bigger game, I might try and pick it up soon actually because the first one is just awesome.

Wave Race will probably be one of the N64 titles that I'll definetly pick up. Going back and watching the water physics it is very impressive.

I too am looking forward to the NeoGeo titles. Not sure when they are coming out though. Metal Slug 3 for Xbox Live MP will be at the TGS. So I assume that they'd be on the way soon enough.

Blue Storm is probably the better option, plus it has one of the 64's courses in it as well. But I think Blue Storm controls are looser, WR64's controls are nice and tight. Both good games none-the-less.

The water in WR64 was amazing for it's time.

Wake me up when Harvest Moon 64/Snes comes to VC. Or Chrono Trigger.

I just gave Waverace 64 a quick play on the Wii and I have to say, for a game almost 10 years old, the water effects and gameplay are still excellent. It's still alot of fun to play!
