Latest Australian console sales numbers released

Wii News | Which console is selling the most?
Gfk Australia has revealed some console sales figures to The Age which reveals just how well the three next generation consoles are going in Australia.

Since its launch back in March 2006 the Xbox 360 has sold 195,056 consoles. The Wii (which debuted in December) has sold 138,192 units and the PlayStation 3 has sold 66,503 units.

Figures weren't revealed for any other machines, but Gfk has stated the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation 2 are the top selling games consoles so far this year, followed by the Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 then PSP.

In related news, it has been revealed by The Age that only around 3% of Xbox 360 sales in Australia have been of the 'Core' bundle.

pretty much what i had expected before clicking into the article... xbox ahead because of the earlier release date, then wii, coz its kick ass (icon_razz.gif)and was released earlier then the PS3 and PS3 last because of relatively late release and (relatively) high cost

I'm interested to see if Heavenly Sword has any affect at all when it comes to moving consoles before christmas.

^ Do you think Heavenly Sword will really be a system seller for the general consumer?

I wouldn't have thought so.

^no, not for the casual gamers that everyone seems to be focusing on, but there are those that are watching the ps3 closely, waiting for a good game to come out before they go out and get one, i think that this game will shift them over (if it even appeals to them)

so while it won't affect casual gamers, it should have an affect for those that are up to date with the gaming community but are just sitting on the fence for the time being.

Since when was there a PG rating for video games? And why?

Since mid-2005 I think, and to (I thought fairly obviously) standardise the rating system.
