E3 2007: Wii Animal Crossing update

Wii News | "We want to do it, but we're not there yet"
It's an update, but it isn't much of one. Speaking to IGN, Shigeru Miyamoto reaffirmed Nintendo's commitment to the Animal Crossing brand, flagging their interest in developing a Wii-based version.

However, it sounds very much like nothing has actually happened on the development front yet. Miyamoto highlighted the challenge of working on so many projects at once, stating, "The Animal Crossing team has been very busy working on a variety of different projects. Actually, the Mii Channel was put together by the director of the most recent Animal Crossing game."

However, Miyamoto also flagged the level of interest in returning to the world, affirming, "Recently [the director] said he really wants to get back to work on Animal Crossing again, so hopefully we'll be able to show something to people before too long."

The vision for Animal Crossing for the Wii was set last year, with lead product developer Katsuya Eguchi stating that he was interested in using the WiFi capability of Wii, allowing players to, "send a letter from their cellphone or from an email address on a PC to the Wii, and then the player living in the town in Animal Crossing could receive that letter."

...and they say no news is good news. *sigh*

I was hoping that an Animal Crossing for the Wii wasn't too far away.
