E3 2007: Nintendo reveals PAL release dates, Brawl in 2008

Wii News | Metroid in October, Mario this year. Advance Wars DS sequel also coming
While it was revealed in Nintendo's E3 conference that the final two of the 'big three' Nintendo Wii games (Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl) would all be released in the US this year, we still had no dates for the PAL release of any of the three. On top of this, the delay of Super Paper Mario in PAL land had left Nintendo's release list looking a bit cluttered in the fourth quarter, which is never a good idea since sales of each title would cannibalise sales of the others. Well, Nintendo have finally revealed their PAL schedule on their EU press site, and it seems Super Smash Bros. Brawl will take the fall, and has been bumped into 2008. On the up side, Metroid has been dated for an October release, and Super Mario Galaxy has been confirmed for 2007.

Another notable element of the update is the revelation that a new Advance Wars game will be coming for DS this year.

Here's the full list for Wii
  • Big Brain Academy for Wii (Nintendo) - 20th July 2007
  • Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Nintendo / Atlus) - 10th August 2007
  • Super Paper Mario (Nintendo) - 14th September 2007

  • Wii Fitness (Nintendo) - 2008
  • Mario Kart Wii (tentative title) (Nintendo) - 2008
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo) - 2008

And for DS
  • Elite Beat Agents (Nintendo) - 13th July 2007
  • Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl (Nintendo) - 27thJuly 2007

Yeah! Thanks for giving us nothing Nintendo! Well, except for Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Forever Blue, Super Mario Galaxy, Battalion Wars 2, Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles, and Pokémon Battle Revolution - all this year. But aside from all that? Nothing! We're not friends anymore Nintendo, and I revoke your invitation to my birthday party.

Getting two of 'The Big Three' this year is pretty good I'd say.

Wonder if we'll get Trauma Centre before the second one comes out in the US and wherever.

He's right on the money though. As much as i love nintendo games especially the 1st party ones, we and i mean Pal consumers get continually shafted with release dates (paper mario anyone?). The reasons vary from (a) we need time to translate foreign languages (b) we don't want to release too many AAA titles at the same time therefore leaving consumers with a long wait until the next 1st party games come out.

isn't the wii reigon free though, there's nothing stopping people from importing from US like how ps3 users do right

Sweet new Advanced Wars and SSB woo hoo. RE UC doesn't look bad either, isn't EBA out as well?

Balls he is. I know how much we get shafted on PAL releases, the point is though that we'll be getting these games before the years out (apparently). That's a bounty of gaming right there, and (always assuming they stick to the times given, a shaky prospect I know) the only game we're getting shafted over is SSBB which is a bit **** but still leagues better than we're usually treated.

Edit: Ittek - The Wii is not region free, unfortunately.

That's crap. Man, why is there still a lag from the NTSC regions to PAL! This is a joke, this is not 1980 Nintendo, you have no excuses. Claiming text translation is not a valid excuse anymore.

*sigh* Well at LEAST we have a date for Metriod and they better not move Mario into 2008 or I will be flying to Japan with my sword ala Bill Kill style.

Whats the go with these on the DS?

- Elite Beat Agents (Nintendo) - 13th July 2007
- Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl (Nintendo) - 27thJuly 2007

In Australia we have all 3 of those titles already, has their been a delay in Europe for these titles?

Not happy, Jan.

If Brawl is in 08, they aren't going to release Mario Kart in Q1 as well... so theres another delay of a title I want.

I will say that Mario Galaxy is a bit of a saving grace here, but still...not happy.

Brawl in 2008?

WTS: PAL Wii.

That's f**king ridiculous with Brawl. My faith has been shifted Nintendo. My faith has been shifted. I have high mind to sell my Wii and get a 360.

Just because little itty bitty Super Paper Mario isn't coming out til September... WTF? Come on, even translation would be much easier for brawl than Metroid.

I'm not really too annoyed by the Super Smash Bros. delay, but rather that there are a lack of Wii software altogether this year. I can only see myself buying two of those games - Metroid and Mario. And Nintendo still haven't really proven that there's a strong third-party showing coming up. Eh.

Damn....still only 3 musthaves for me (Galaxy, Umbrella Chronicles and Super Paper Mario) but I am more and more interested in Brawl and Coruption, hopefully those are worth the purchase when they come out.

Excited to see Galaxy nearing release cuz this looks like Mario 64 all over again (which is so awesome that was the only way I could describe it)!

Every game is Q4... Pal sucks once again icon_sad.gif
and 2008 for SSBB

The newest Mario Galaxy Trailer has me really excited, its "VERY Platformer" the level design is looking brilliant, and I really like the graphical style with the falloff effect on all the edges.

As has been made clear by almost everyone here. It's not Nintendo's development that is the problem. It's not that the games we're getting aren't any good - they are in fact brilliant. I am pumped about the games we're getting but I AM selling my PAL Wii and getting a US console because the PAL regions are shafted constantly by horrible management and bulls**t excuses. I've never had a PAL Nintendo console and after this I never will again.

As I've been trying to make clear, I tend to think that the fact we're getting all that this year is (in fact) quite decent given how much we usually get **** over with Nintendo PAL releases.

Edit: Just to be clear, I also hate that we get the shortest of the short sticks in this regard. It just seems that (given how long we've had to wait for SPM) getting all that at once seems uncharacteristically lucky.

Until Nintendo take the PAL market seriously (man, that’s even hard to say), they can... I won’t finish that.

It doesn’t matter that we get 2/3 this year. It doesn’t matter that things are slightly better at this point in time than they were last gen. We need simultaneous releases worldwide – no excuses! This **** has been going on for way too long and it’s just not justifiable, at least not rationally. I just want to know; why region code the Wii?

If being able to monitor region-by-region sales is more important than getting your games out to the paying public sooner, then you don’t get my hard-earned dollar. People have been screaming for the option to import for an eternity now, but again, it seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

I’m just glad that there’s plenty of competition right now, otherwise who knows when we’d get our games...
