Pre E3 2007: Dragon Ball Z goes universal

Wii News | With an online mode for the Wii.
While we've enjoyed our Dragon Ball Z Budokai outings, there are a few things that we would have liked that would have enhanced our experience. Publisher Atari has confirmed that one of these things has now become a reality. Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 on the Wii will have a playable online multiplayer mode, over the Nintendo Wi-fi Connection service. There are no specifics provided, but it is certainly a step forward for the franchise.

Opposingly, the PS2 version will not have an online mode. The multiplayer will be strictly offline. However, it seems that the PS2 version will ship with a bonus disc called the "Fusion disc". It will supposedly unlock new modes on the previous two versions of the games. These are unspecified for the time being.

"Atari is incredibly excited to provide online gameplay for the Wii and a special Disc Fusion System for the PlayStation 2 system version of Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3," said Emily Anadu, senior product manager, Atari. "Adding online gameplay for Wii will finally deliver on a feature that fans have been waiting for while the Disc Fusion System on PlayStation 2 rewards those fans that have supported us from the beginning of the Budokai Tenkaichi series."

Great news, finally DBZ is online! icon_smile.gif Can't wait to give it a shot. The "Fusion disc" certainly sounds interesting, I wonder how it would work? Anyway, I'm very happy with this announcement, good things to come for DBZ fans. All I could ask for now is a PS3 game, I'm thinking that they'll move onto the next gen console after this game, since they seem to like doing DBZ games in sets of 3, there was Budokai 1-3, then they shifted to Tenkaichi which is now 1-3, so they should come up with a new series and move on.

I'm pretty sure the creators stated somewhere that this is the last Budokai Tenkaichi. Excellent news on the online for Wii but could they have added this feature for the ps2 version if someone was using a ps3 to play the game? Probably a difficult thing to do I suppose.
