Mario Party 8 sells 550,000 in America

Wii News | Becoming the fastest selling game for the series.
According to a press release from Nintendo today, Mario Party 8 has become the franchise's fastest selling instalment by selling 550,000 software units in America since its release on May 29th this year.

"The overwhelming response not only reminds us how much fans absolutely love the Mario Party franchise but also proves the unmatched ability of the Wii system to attract new players," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Wii users are keeping the Mario Party going strong."

Mario Party 8 is the first Mario Party game to be released on the Wii and features several new elements over its predecessors including the game's camera system being put "on the board" to give the game a more dynamic feel and a new candy power-up system that lets players transform their character into various creatures and objects. It is currently scheduled to release in Australia on the 19th of July. While you wait, you can check out our preview by clicking here

The Party aint' over yet!

Nice figures there, and who would have thought the 8th in the series would become the fastest seller? Guess it just needed the new console to sell it?

You answered your own question there, the reason is most certainly the Wii, it's made for this. The game isn't sucky, I can tell you that, they had it available to play at the DS Connection Tour, and it was actually very good, thr use of the Wiimote is excellent, and well implemented. The actual format of the games has been given a bit of a tweaking as well.
