Real Heroes: Firefighter announced

Wii News | Great balls of fire to be doused with Wii.
Epicenter Studios has recently announced via a press release that they'll be bringing an exclusive fire fighting game to the Wii called Real Heroes: Firefighter. In the game, players will take on the role of a rookie firefighter who has been assigned to a busy metropolitan fire station. Being the nature of metropolitan areas, emergency situations will arise frequently and you'll be tasked with various rescue and dousing missions (we're getting the odd sense of Super Mario Sunshine here).

According to the press release, the game will feature "Thinking Fire" technology which will make the virtual fires act realistically by "attack structures, potential victims and firefighters", as well as create hazards that will force players to change their strategies and look for other options. Each scenario has also been promised to be different from one another and will require the use of the player's "mastery" of firefighting tools and techniques and "ability to think and react quickly under pressure."

“Combining our unique fire tech with the specific strengths of the Wii was a natural choice for us as we designed Real Heroes,” says Epicenter CCO Bryan Jury. “The Wii-mote makes spraying down fires with your hose, hacking down doors with your axe and prying victims loose from wrecked cars with the Jaws of Life an absolutely visceral game experience.”

“The Wii is a family-friendly console and we’ve designed Real Heroes with that in mind,” notes Epicenter CEO Nathaniel McClure. “Because firefighting requires a lot more than dousing flames, Real Heroes emphasizes non-violent, game-integral puzzles that mirror the challenges and on-the-fly choices firefighters actually face.”

“We are making every effort to create a game that is intense and engaging, but always respectful to firefighters who, we believe, are real heroes,” states McClure.

Real Heroes: Firefighter currently has no publisher but Epicenter Studios has confirmed they'll be choosing a publisher shortly. The game is expected to release sometime in 2008.

Well, it's certainly a good concept, should be good to see the end result. The good thing about the Wii is it's ability to give games an extra level of realism that the 360 and PS3 can't match, actually being able to interact with game events using your own movements. That sort of thing is a big advantage when it comes to games like this.

I'd think that realistic graphics would add more realism to the experience than ordinary graphics and the Wii Remote. That and the fact that I can't see myself playing a firefighting game with any level of seriousness.

I can see many, many people handling the wiimote at crotch-level while playing this... I know I'll probably give it a go after a few beers icon_razz.gif

Hopefully this fire tech they're boasting about isn't just a load of hot air and will make the game somewhat interesting. If that fails, ship the game with a free Fireman hat and I'll consider it.

Did anyone play that SNES firefighting game? It was made by some guys in Uni. It was really good for an indy game.
