Geometry Wars returns

Wii News | This time for Nintendo.
If you didn't get enough of the Xbox Live Arcade game Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved last time around, then you will be thrilled to hear that two new entries in the Geometry Wars universe are making their way to the Wii and DS. Vivendi have today confirmed that Geometry Wars: Galaxies is currently in development - however, it will be Kuju Entertainment and the helm this time around, rather than Bizarre Creations.

The biggest new addition appears to be the mission mode, where players must defend each progressive solar system, defeating waves of enemies one at a time. Controls will, of course, use the Wii-mote and touch screen in some unique way, rather than the dual analog set up of Retro Evolved. Plus, there will be online options for both versions. Oh, and did we mention that Retro Evolved will also be playable in the game?

All things going well, we can expect to see this one in the third quarter of this year. Until then, feast your eyes on the three Wii shots in the media panel.

Awesome. I wonder how well it will handle though. Dual sticks seemed like the perfect controls for it.

Day one purchase. I love GeoWars. It's the only game that I really play anymore on my 360. That's pretty impressive considering it was a launch title.

Good game. Wii owners hould be happy.

Will be interesting to see how they adapt the Wii controls.

IGN are saying that there will be linkup between both playforms wirelessly during play, perhaps this will allow the ability for the DS to control the Wii version.

Anyone remember Galaxy Monkey? Galaxy Monkey was a mini-game in Ape Escape for PlayStation that had you as a monkey in a space ship flying in space; left analog stick for movement, right for shooting and you take down waves of different enemies.
I love that game and played it all the time.
Though i found Geometry Wars better. Great visuals and the premise of the game is so much fun. It's the first thing i'd get if i had an Xbox360

Question: Was Galaxy Monkey the first to do this? I know of no other that came before it. Please do assist.

(Edit due to a punctuation error. Couldn't stand it, though i know others must exist.)

Wii controls sound like a heap of fun (I still haven't played a Wii), but I don't see how the DS controls would be any good at all...

My first question is who owns the IP?

My second question is why take the IP to such low rez platforms?

D pad to move. touch in the direction of screen to shoot.

I'd get it, as I would love to play this game to on portable. (I just got back playing the PC one just now as it's one of the best time killers on my hand.)
