New Metroid Prime 3: Corruption shots

Wii News | Metroidy.
It's been over a year since that one single screenshot of Metroid Prime 3: Corruptions for the Nintendo Wii was released - during E3 2006, in fact. However, the kind folks of Nintendo have unveiled five brand spankin' new shots of the game in action, which will no doubt come as a great surprise to all you Metroid fans out there. And we know there's an awful lot of you.

It was only yesterday that Nintendo gave the game a US release date, so perhaps more information could be on the way soon. Fingers crossed, then.

^ You're comparing the gameplay in Duck Hunt and Time Crisis to Twilight Princess? Just because you had to aim in those games by pointing a cursor on a screen all of sudden these games are similar? For one thing there was no waggling of the light gun in either of those games, secondly those games weren't epic adventures.....you would probably sit there for about an hour playing those games.....so of course this isn't going to get to strenuos. But in Zelda you could be sitting there for anywhere upto 4 hours (or 8?!?! Personally I barely even get 8 hours a week to play games let alone in one sitting), and waggling, wiggling, thrusting and aiming can get very cumbersome and frustrating after that amount of time...especially when it's late and you're smashed.

Also i'm sure lots of gamecube owners enjoyed the game and they didn't have a wiimote for aiming.

How about you shut the hell up and actually go and learn a bit more about games so you can actually make a significant comparison.

OK, you both have good points. It just comes down to taste.

While I don't personally think the Wiimote is a chore (and I also love the speaker), I can see how if 'could' be a bother for some people, the speaker too (I know you hate that too Ugh).

To call somebody lazy is a bit rough.

I love the idea of the speaker but the execution left a lot to be desired, in Twilight Princess it was a crackling, tinny mess. It worked well in Raving Rabbids however.

I heard the speaker was used as a telephone in Red Steel. Was that idea taken or was it still used?

Watch the game in motion, It's not that horrible jaggy mess that these low quality screens would have you believe.

Straying a bit off topic, but say I should get a widescreen monitor for my computer. What kind of equipment would I need to run a Wii in 480p on it?
Monitors with component inputs are usually 22"+ and $1k+. I would suggest a HDTV tuner card.

Take this for example.. Plays HDTV on your PC, as well as having component inputs so you can play the Wii (or 360 or DVD player or anything with component outputs) on your monitor.

Do read the fine print on items like these though since the cheaper ones tend to leave out some important resolutions and such.

But what I mean is, nintendo have said from day 1 that the wii would not be about graphics (i.e. that the graphics are s***) and every game that has come out does not have graphics anywhere near anything on 360 or ps3. If nintendo claimed their graphics were as good I could understand, but people are complaining about metroid 3 not looking good, when they knew, months ago, that there is no possible way it could look good. (Compared to what most modern technology can do). We know for a fact that the wii can not do good graphics, yet we are continuing to be surprised when each game comes out... it doesn't make sense.
I can still voice my dissappointment though. Anyway it was only a comment in passing.

Yes, it appears so, just like the excellent controls in CoD3, it's standard Timesplitters controls except with the pointer replacing the right analogue stick. There is also an option to lock the cursor in the middle of the screen (called 'expert' controls) for even more precision.

You could actually strafe in Prime 1 and 2 anyway, you just hold L or lock on to an enemy. But yeah, Prime 3 appears to have a dramatically different control scheme, and we'll have to see if that means a different gameplay emphasis.
Haven't played those games so I don't know. And I totally forgot about that bounding box thingy so I'll have to wait and see.

I'm sorry, I was unaware I was talking to the supreme knowledge of everything gaming. I admit that the waggling in Zelda did become a bit annoying, but it was hardly an effort. Just like pressing A in the other Zelda games, it became second nature and I hardly noticed after a few hours. I too am in a position where I don't get a lot of gaming time at the moment but I have been playing games (especially some of the Resident Evil series) where I have been playing for such a long time that my fingers started to ache. The reccomendation at that point is to have a rest. You can't slate a game (or an entire console for that matter) just because you get tired of aiming, waggling or whatever. I'm sure your arms would get tired if you played Guitar Hero for too long as well, its called "exercise". I do, however, agree with what you said about the speaker, far too loud, and even when turned down, its still horribly tinny!

Oooh, another aspect of the game that will probably have to change due to the Wiimote is the lock-on. If they implement the lock-on then that will surely put the pointer out of sync with the screen.

Personally, I think the lock-on needs to given up. I'm not semi-retarded and I will like to point where I want to thank you very much.
