New Metroid Prime 3: Corruption shots

Wii News | Metroidy.
It's been over a year since that one single screenshot of Metroid Prime 3: Corruptions for the Nintendo Wii was released - during E3 2006, in fact. However, the kind folks of Nintendo have unveiled five brand spankin' new shots of the game in action, which will no doubt come as a great surprise to all you Metroid fans out there. And we know there's an awful lot of you.

It was only yesterday that Nintendo gave the game a US release date, so perhaps more information could be on the way soon. Fingers crossed, then.

HUD's still looking pretty primitive, not too long till the release now... wtf @ shots 4 and 5 though, wonder what Samus is doing with that usually-useless arm. icon_confused.gif

Either those are terrible quality screens or the Prime 3 has taken a downgrade since 2.

i thought they looked pretty awesome

and woah, check out the new suit!

Man those screens really look crap. I was hoping they would actually look awesome and maybe get me interested in the game again....but I don't wanna play something that looks like that. I lost interest about 3/4 way through Prime 2 so I don't see myself picking this up.

Shame really cuz Prime 1 was one of my fave games last gen....I seriously don't know what happened....although the control scheme really started to frustrate me in Prime 2 whereas in Prime 1 it was fine. I gather the controls in Corruption might actually be heaps better (perfect almost?) so i'll definately have to try it out. I'm hoping it gets me back into the series (cuz I think there is a future for it). Those screens of Samus lifting her arm and stuff just look like they might be new gameplay gimmicks cuz of the wiimote. Also whats up with screen 2? It looks like Jack Skellington carring a lantern upside down or something? It's such a mess!

While the screeneis don't look that bad. You have to remember that screen shots can be misleading both ways. Metriod is all about being smooth and slick. If it's Metriod with 1.5 better graphics, that's great.

Prime 1 & 2 were great games. I really enjoyed 2 desipte the negative press. You have to remember that echoes was rushed. Corruption will be a more refined thought out game, you can bet your bottom $ on it.

I really think the controls will be suited to this game. Remember Nintendo delayed this badboy to show off a FPS using the Wiimote. Red Steel may have been terrible, but their is no way that this game will get released if it's got shoddy controls. I have complete faith in Nintendo be bring home the bacon as they made the jump of metriod from 2D to 3D in the best possible way.

PS - RE4 on the Wii is getting rave reviews in Japan. The wii controls have been really well done and add a lot to the game.

The screens look awesome.

Pretty sure anywhere that the left arm is in the picture is Samus using the grappling beam to grab stuff. Around E3 there were demonstrations of her using it to rip shields off... Think that's what's happening.

I hope they keep the difficulty high. Retro were awesome in making Prime 2 so much harder than 1.

Who you tryna convince...me or yourself? I have no doubt in my mind that those graphics are crap! If this is seriously one of Nintendo's 'big guns' then the future does look bleak....or a jagged mess....however you wanna put it.

Also I would much rather use two sticks to aim on Resident Evil or any game because holding the wiimote up to aim is actually a chore (i don't care how much more quick and accurate it is because the original controls worked perfectly).

Don't freak out yet, those pics are just bad quality, seeing the game in motion is much different. I highly doubt the actual game will look like that, I've looked at all the videos that have been released over time, and the graphics look great. It never seems to show that well in static images though.

i have to agree that the pictures themselves didnt really impress me, but i like to give benefit of the doubt and pray that those are still in production and havent been giving the last polish.

otherwise the whole looking through the helmet might annoy me as well feeling kinda cramped in there, and i dont like having the edges of the helmet getting in the way of the view.

I've seen the game in motion it looks crap! Those screens look crap! Look this is my opinion....I think it looks crap! You guys think it looks great....you don't see me trying to convince you otherwise....just deal with it!

I'm not trying to convince you, I'm just saying don't make your final judgement on the game based on a few crappy pics.

On topic, even if the graphics were as bad as in the pics, Nintendo would still sell millions anyway. icon_rolleyes.gif So, they're probably not too worried either way. I guess graphics aren't everything after all anyway, the gameplay looks to be awesome. icon_smile.gif

yEa cuz we're all on here cuz we care about how much money Nintendo make of this product. icon_rolleyes.gif As long as Nintendo sells millions it doesn't matter if the game is crap, all that matters is that Nintendo sell and make millions! Infact I hope I get burned and the game is a huge glitchy mess and Nintendo are laughing cuz they sold me crap! I mean that's all that matters right?

I do think the game will play a lot better because the controls on the previous version needed a lot of fixing up (they worked ok, but the the ommission of using the second stick to look around was stupid!), but if i'm gonna be looking at graphics like that it's really gonna turn me off.

I played Prime 2 a few months back and I didn't think it looked very good compared to how I remember it.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything, you are not doubt biased and made up your mind a while back about anything in this discussion area. I think we can all agree Nintendo in general is not your cup of tea. I think you might be better off selling your Wii and writing hate mail to Nintendo.

Screens are OK, nobody is going 'OMG this is a halo killer'. We are not expecting Halo 3 graphics here. It's a big gun because it is Metriod. Metriod games always rock. They have atmosphere, style and grace. It's also going to be a showcase for a FPS with the wii controls. Having said that, it's most likely not for everybody.

Your comment about RE doesn't make any sense. I think the controls are going to be perfect for that type of game. Ie slow moving character with pin-point precision pointer. Wiimote a chore? I played 50+ hours of Zelda and not once did I feel it was a chore.

^ No actually i'd be better off if you Nintendo kids stopped reacting to every comment I made about them.

Nobdoy said 'oMg tEh Haloz kiLLa'....but I was expecting it to look better than prime 1 and 2...not worse!

So is that comment your opinion? Kinda like mine? It was a chore...that's what I think that's why I couldn't be bothered finishing it. What the hell has you playing thru Twilight Princess got anything to do with my experiences with it? Holding that stupid wiimote like I had to WAS a chore for me whether you like it or not. Just get over it. If i think a Microsoft or Sony game is going to be crap i'll let you know.

Ugh is on the money. What a surprise that Prime 3 looks like a gamecube game, Mario Galaxy is the only game that somewhat looks like they put in some graphical effort and even that pales in comparison to the crisp clean HD goodness on the PS3 and Xbox360.

If Corruption doesn't look as good a MP1&2 or even better, I will eat my own words and a hat or two, that you can be sure off. But I really think the screenshots are OK and in motion @ 60 fps will be great. I'm not expecting a graphical show piece but awesome art direction (like MP1 more then 2) and spooky environments.

OK, the Wiimote is a chore to you, I get it. Seriously, if you have such hate for the console, why don't you get rid of it?

Btw - Not finishing Zelda makes baby Jesus cry Ugh!
Well Zelda would've been ok if you didn't have to shake/thrust to attack...that aspect was so frustrating and inaccurate. And yea I basically stopped playing because the controls sucked and the fact that I had to have the wiimote pointing to the sensor bar the whole time and that meant holding it at a slight angle.

Well i've already spent quite a bit of money on the Wii and it's games, including the virtual console so it would be silly to sell the thing especially when I don't need the money and the fact that the 2 games I bought it for haven't been released yet (Super Paper Mario and Mario Galaxy).

I do hope you're right and the tech and art direction in Corruption is like Prime 1 and not 2 because 2 was ugly with it's light and dark worlds...whereas the bioorganic scenery in Prime 1 was right up my alley.

Actually that's an excellent point. The controls in the first Metroid were perfect, so unless the Wiimote somehow managers to better them or offer an entirely new experience unlike we've played before, it's still inferior to a Gamecube game. Why play MP3 that uses the Wiimote well when you can just play MP1 that utilises the control pad perfectly?
I KINDA agree with Ugh... AND I'm a Metroid fan.
The screens look like they're of Gamecube quality, but thats most likely because of the industrial setting they're taken from (too much grey).
I'm sure the other environments are much prettier (pixelated shrubbery goodness AHOY!)

Now onto controls... if your arm gets tired from playing, turn the damn thing off. Or do more exercise.
I'm pretty sure the control scheme in MP1 is EXACTLY the same as MP2

I agree these screens look bad, I can't believe they released them actually.

Check out this video of the game from a year ago, it looks much, much better then these screens do:

^ Wow, I hadn't seen that trailer before, and even though it's bad youtube quality it still looks better than these screens. Hard to believe that Nintendo bothered releasing them at all.

How does that solve the control issue? Thats like saying GTA controls suck if you don't like it turn it off. Why can't they make it better?

In the context of a Wii game though, and given that the Wii is based around a form of control that is more strenuous than traditional ones, the 'I can't play this game for 8 hours straight without my arms getting sore, fix it!' bit doesn't really hold water.
It really does come down to the fact that if you didn't/don't want to deal with motion controls (and the strain that comes with them) then you probably shouldn't have got a Wii in the first place.
