Final version of Wii Internet Channel now available

Wii News | Free until June 30.
With a new system update comes a new 'non-traditional' reason to turn on a Wii - this time, for the first non-beta version of the Opera-powered Wii Internet Channel.

Purchasable for free from the Wii Ware section of the Wii Shop, the 'final' version of the Internet Channel comes with a couple of nifty upgrades in terms of features and fixes - including, as promised, improvements in start up times, zooming, scrolling, and all-round navigation options, along with superfluous additions in presentation.

Even though this version of the Internet Channel is being proclaimed as 'final', tweaks and updates are expected for the foreseeable future - but what won't be is the price. As reported from the beginning, Wii owners will have until June 30 to download the Internet Channel for free, after which it will carry a 500 Wii Point price tag.

I'm liking the new browser, still a little sad about the lack of tabs. =(

No tabs? Bummer....I was waiting for this as I like using the Wiimote to browse.

Still i'll try the full version and see how it works before making up my mind.

Also from what I understand it is free uptill June 30 and from that point anyone who hasn't downloaded it already will have to pay to get it or will everyone even the people who've downloaded it will have to pay to continue using it? I hope it's the former.....I don't really wanna pay for it.

I just remembered about the B-Trigger Scrolling. It looks really really cool. icon_razz.gif

If we download the Browser before June 30, we don't pay a cent.

just curious but are there any screen shots of the browser? i'm curious to see what it looks like.

So Wii users have to pay for a browser while PS3 users get it free?

Yes, eventually.

What about the Xbox 360?

They're getting a thumb-board attachment for the controllers (which would make typing URL's really easy), yet still no web browser on the horizon!

I can't believe you don't have a secure connection Ugh. People are very naughty and will steal your internet in a flash.

Yeah, totally. With the improved zoom, youtube actually becomes a great piece of party entertainment.

Don't like this new browser. The scroll function with the B trigger has been messed with and it sux (now places a marker on the page and it scrolls around that). Also the zoom function does not reset when you change pages, go back or reload which makes it very frustrating because you have to zoom out exactly the amount of times you've zoomed in (unlike the trial version) to get the page back to it's orginal size which is stupid! Atleast have a button to put the zoom back to 0%. Yea new browser sux....almost the exact same functionality with a couple of useless options thrown in and the controls have been messed with and they're not any better. Also the fact that it doesn't support tabs makes the whole update seem pointless.

Crap! Atleast it was free.

Also you could watch Youtube videos with the trial version. Infact from the looks of things the trial version had exactly the same features/support.

For once Ugh I agree with you. This is a step down from the Trial version

I agree. The scrolling is horrible and now when i zoom in too much it cuts a tiny bit of the page off..and i cant reverse it.. i much prefer the trial version...good they fixed the loading times though.

I agree the B scolling isn't as easy, but I'll see what I think when used to it. It seems too sensitive, but at least you can get down a page quicker, and you an use the d-pad for any fine movements.

About the zooming, you've got much more control and can go in much further - so youtube can now go full screen. However, you can change it back to the old style in the settings if you want anyway.

Lovin the update, so fast and easy to use, yeah the B scrolling is a tad annoying, but u can't please everyone....

haven't used it much yet, but the sites i checked worked quite well (only problem i had was trying to use myspace properly as there is so much info to load at once, but meh)

and did anyone notice the password function *'s your password as you type?
nice little change there icon_smile.gif
