Resident Evil 4 Wii confirmed

Wii News | Prepare for more fear.
Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has confirmed that Capcom is developing a Wii port of Resident Evil 4.

The game will include reworked controls which take advantage of the Wii remote and nunchuck, aiming and knife thrusting will be mapped to motions which you can carry out with the Wii remote. The Wii edition will include all of the extras which were found on the PlayStation 2 edition of the game, which means the Ada Wong campaign will be included.

There are no other details about the game, which is set for release in Japan in the next few months. We'll have more on Resident Evil 4 for the Wii once Capcom sheds more light on the title.

With real time cutscenes like the GCN version?

Chuck in a real 16:9 mode and I daresay this may be worthy of a purchase.

It had better have 16:9 and 480p otherwise I'll be rightly pissed. The GCN PAL Version looks terrible with letterbox and 480i. I really want to play it but every time I look at it on my screen I cringe so I've never beaten it! I really should get my old SDTV and bring it back in for my Wii....

they better take the time with this one, cause i dont want them screwing up the controls and just ruin a potentially scary game +_+

Great news! Good that I'll get to play the PS2 extras, I've heard that they are pritty average though? I've been wondering though about the changes that the wii-mote will make. What's the point of 'leveling up' the stedyness of Leon's arm when you are now directly in control of the steadyness of the gun? And you can basically move the gun much faster thean Leon in his 'locked stance' ever could. This could make the game too easy and not as fun.

Good question, will the cutscenes be real time?

I really hope the controls are tight and don't ruin this great title.

Steadiness of Leon's arm? I don't think there is such a think in Resident Evil 4. I haven't played the Ps2 version (despite owning it) so i'm not sure if this was a change implemented in that version (as far as I know it was only the Ada Wong chapters and the laser gun). I do know certain guns allowed for steadier aiming and there were a couple of different stocks you could get to steady a couple of different guns e.g. the TMP and Red 9.

Also the cutscenes were always in realtime on RE4 (as in they were using the ingame engine).

I already have this game twice (GCN + PS2) so they will have to add in something seriously cool to get me to buy it for a third time. A different way of playing the same game is pointless to me.

We already know that the Graphical potential of the Wii is better than the two versions aleady available, but better graphics will not cut it here. Even if this version has the real time cut scenes plus all the included extras that the PS2 version has, it will not be enough to get me to buy it a third time. The game plays perfectly on the two versions already available. It will need More gameplay, areas, weapons, story, outfits, items.. that sort of thing.

The addition of SEPARATE WAYS to the PS2 version made it a vastly superior game play experience than the NGC version despite the reduced graphics (which are still among the best on the PS2) and the rather disappointing pre-rendered cut scenes (Instant Outfit and item changes FTL). That is what I am looking for here. Some sort of huge addition, not just a few tack on gimmicks.

haha....I love watching other people play games....because i'm very systematic....I take it room by room and make sure every nook and cranny in each room is explored before moving on. But when watching other people play (especially people who don't play games too much)....i might see heaps of different stuff....e.g. entering a room and seeing set piece you never knew existed, or seeing creatures kill you in crazy/horrific ways etc.

It's awesome!

I think he's referring to weapons such as the TMP, where you could purchase a stock to reduce the amount of kickback which throws off your aim. He's saying that, if you're in direct control of the gun, this kickback wouldn't be an issue. But I believe it still will. When you're firing the gun rapidly, your cursor will move around, and you'll have to compensate.

That said, I'm wondering whether the game's difficulty level might be thrown off by more precise aiming. They may have to add in more enemies, or reduce the amount of ammo you find.

Super-psyched for this. Hope it comes together as well as it could.

I seriously think this will work wonders. The aiming system suits the Wiimote totally, as it's not like a FPS where you have to aim and move the camera quickly.

If anything, it could make RE4 too easy.

I'm excited, because I didn't get the RE4 PS2 package and would love to play it through on 16:9 support @ 480p. Fantastic news.

In the PS2 version, they were FMVs of the GCN cutscenes. This is why no matter what outfit Leon/Ashley is wearing, they will always wear the default outfit in the PS2 FMVs, whereas their outfits are represented during cutscenes in the GCN version.

^ Lol! How crap! It's weird cuz the Ada Wong cutscenes (the new ones that weren't in the GCN version)....what was the deal with them? Obviously they weren't pre-rendered versions of the GCN ones seeing as the GCN version didn't have them?

I actually have it on Ps2 (awesome LE tin edition too), but I turned it on for like 5 mins and promply turned it off cuz it looked horrible compared! I don't wanna play through a game again and it look worse! That's not on! I might actually end up buying the Wii version because I really do want to see the new Ada Wong stuff but I don't really wanna see it on the Ps2 version.

If you look at my original post you'll see I took the stock etc into consideration. What Qbert actually said was "leveling up" as in building your characters resilience in holding weapons steady etc and this feature does not exist. Say for example the Handcannon....everyone has the same recoil on that thing.....infact every gun has the same recoil except when you purchase the stock which like I already mentioned is only available for about 2 guns....if I remember correctly. I understand what you're saying about the Wiimote changing recoil on the guns....but I doubt it. Infact it'll take away from the immersion a little and I think the whole point of RE4 on the Wii is to heighten the immersion.

seems a bit redundant for me - i hope they offer this as a cut price game for all the people who never had a gamecube.

I know. That's what I'm saying - that he's mixed up the "leveling up" of the weapons' various features with the way you can equip the stock to reduce recoil. You can't level up Leon's abilities, or level up the stock, as you said.

I don't think the Wii remote will have any impact on the recoil, as you're not pointing directly at your target on the screen anyway, but rather using the sensor bar as reference.

As an example, when you change the Sensor Bar position in the Wii's option screen from "Above TV" to "Below TV," the cursor quickly changes position, jumping either up or down about 4 inches... You just have to adjust your aim. Admittedly though, it'll be a lot quicker adjusting your aim with the remote than an analog stick, unless Capcom slows down how fast you can move your sights.

means i'll probably buy it a third time, for it to only sit on my shelf unplayed.

i really should play through at least 1 version.

They were still prerendered FMV, they were probably just using the more detailed character models from the GCN version (which presumably didn't run well with the PS2's hardware, or they wouldn't have bothered in the first place).

Hopefully the Seperate Ways cutscenes are done in realtime, and a shot in the arm for the graphics sure wouldn't hurt (considering RE4 already eclipses any Wii release thus far).

Yeah I meant 'leveling up' as in upgrading the weapon, ie. stock to increase steadiness. Re-reading my post, I see that it's not very clear now.

I was basically trying to say what Nev did. Not only that the stock will not be important, thats a very minor issue, but that your shooting skills will increase ten-fold with the inplementation of the wii-mote, as you can move around your gun faster.

Sorry for the confusion.

It would have been interesting to see how non-analogue stick controls work with this game on the PC version.

But capcom didn't put mouse support in. icon_lol.gif icon_confused.gif icon_lol.gif

I paid $100 for the CE gamecube of this in crappy box condition and reasonable disc condition. it sucks they going to bring this out now icon_sad.gif. anyone wants to buy it off me for $85 lol?? so i can get the wii version..

awesome game though, sucks its doesnt display in wide screen..looks kinda crappy on my hd tv too.

If Capcom do a good job of taking advantage of the extra Wii power for sharper visuals and the controls are still good I might be convinced to pay the price of purchase again.

After all if there's any game I revere and want to keep in my collection its definitely RE4.
