NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams officially announced

Wii News | Rumour no longer.
Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has officially announced the news that will make every Sega fanboy weep. After an 11 year hiatus, NiGHTS is making its triumphant return on the Wii later this year.

The game, currently titled NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams (though this is subject to change), is set to debut on the Wii in Japan "this winter" (towards the end of the year, in other words). No new details on the game have emerged, but Sonic Team USA boss, Takashi Iizuka, assures us all that the game will make good use of the remote, giving gamers the heady sensation of flight, without having to think about the controls.

The good news is that Iizuka worked on the original NiGHTS into Dreams for the Sega Saturn, as well as the Sonic Adventure titles on the Dreamcast. The bad news is, he was also partly responsible for Shadow the Hedgehog. Hopefully, shonky vehicles and gunplay will be kept to a minimum. In the meantime, we'll have to wait until the game sees its PAL release to find out if dreams really do come true.

Old news but still good. I never played the old NiGHTS but after looking at some old videos, it seems to be a cool concept.

The only problem is that they've decided to make a sequel after all the Sonic Adventure business. Is this just a chance for them to cash in even more on past successes?

Despite not actually knowing too much about Nights, I am glad that this rumour has become true and that the game has been announced. If what I have heard is correct, Nights is a game that is suited to the Wiimote so that alone piques my interest. With any luck the original Nights will be released on the Virtual Console and I will be able to experience the original as well. icon_smile.gif

Most companies do that, Nintendo are still cashing in on almost all of their franchises, Capcom is still doing Street Fighter and Resident Evil

Sega has alot of good old franchises that they should have kept going, they still keep some alive like Sonic (unfortunately not as good as it once was). There is nothing wrong with keeping a franchise alive, its just put more effort into it. As for "sonic adventure business" Sonic Adventure was really good. Just nothing after SA2 till Secret Rings was any good.

NiGHTS and Panzer Dragoon I think would suit the Wii. Other franchises they should continue include Burning Rangers, Daytona, Sega Rally and Ecco. Shinobi could also return in a cool Ninja Gaiden rip off

they NEED to bring back Shenmue to finish the story, thats one big grevience I have with Sega, have set up this great game with an amazing story and not even finish it. Since I finished Shenmue II all those years ago, the next installment has been THE game I have been waiting for.

Many people have been waiting forever for Duke Nukem Forever, I have been waiting forever for Shenmue III
