Resident Evil 4 Wii edition on the way?

Wii Rumour | Listing on GameStop suggests so.
According to American online retailer GameStop, Capcom's Resident Evil 4 has apparently been ported to the Wii and will be available from June 25th at US$29.99 (roughly AU$47.00).

The claim comes following a listing on the site detailing the item's existence despite no previous announcements being made by Capcom. Mysteriously, the listing has since vanished from the site but GoNintendo managed to obtain a print screen as proof.

This isn't the first time a retailer has revealed the existence of a product before an official announcement has been made. EB Games revealed the existence of Ratchet and Clank for the PSP while Australian online retailer dStore listed both the black and pink DS Lite before Nintendo Australia confirmed they would be making their way to Aussie shores.

We'll report back should Capcom reveal any information regarding Resident Evil 4 on the Wii.

I think that somewhere, right at this very moment, Qbert is grinning like a madman icon_smile.gif

I distinctly remember posting somewhere here, long ago, that if they ported RE4 to the Wii with Wiimote aiming etc. I'd buy it without thinking twice. I guess I shouldn't go back on that, but now that it seems to be happening I'm a little wary.

That could be all I need to buy a Wii...

Sounds nice, but but I've already been there, done that. Bring on Umbrella Chronicles!

This seems super strange. Not that RE:4 isn't a great game but... I'm *so* sick of ports. Hurray for more tacked on graphics. The Wii needs better!

hmmm i think many people will be cautious towards this title. I myself have embarrassingly never played resident evil for so i will definitely pick it up. Especially if it ends up being $50-70. But they would have to do something pretty special to the what is by all reports already an awesome game to make people wanna buy it again. Is this just another money making scheme? Probably, but then again i have never played the game so they have me sucked in.

Well if this game takes advantage of the wii remote and add features which other versions couldnt get i'm sure it'll be a pretty good game on the wii, wonder if it will incorperate the light gun casing for the remote.

I even think that being on the wii and using the remote as the gun it'll might even add that extra element of scariness oO...

The Wii has never been, and doesn't even try to be a 'next gen' console. Nintendo even distanced themselves from the 'next gen' business by making up that 'new gen' guff. You know this as well as I do.

But this is neither 'new' nor 'next'. Its 'last' with a motion controller.

There is a simple answer to this, Capcom always rehash there most populer games.

Its true that its an old game but hopefully they've invented a new way of playing it. Maybe they'll make it more like house of the dead or such.

I heard about it this morning, apparently its bs

Yeah it is more Capcoms fault. And they are releasing Umbrella Chronicles so this isn't my best opportunity to rip on the Wii icon_razz.gif

That being said, if the Wii doesn't define itself as 'new gen' soon, I think it will be stuck in its current 'last gen + motion' state.

Never finished RE4, I'll totally get it if the controls work out well.

You own personal feelings about the console aside, it isn't part of the 'next gen' party so leave the 'omg not nextgen' bit out eh?

Ignoring my first post, did you actually read my latest one you quoted?? I didn't say "not nextgen", I said "is lastgen."

I'm sorry if it seems I'm trying to get the last word in, but you kind of misrepresented me there.

This makes perfect sense, if you consider that Capcom could be using this as a way of testing the waters with it's control scheme for Umbrella Chronicles. If there are criticisms, they can address them before UC is released.

That and the whole "money" thing. But when you think about how much time and money Wii developers spend on a title that can't be ported (at least, not easily) to other systems, you have to cut them some slack.

Capcom made a similar move by RE-using the RE-make engine to produce Resident Evil 0. If you've spent a great deal of time/effort/money on something, it only makes sense that you want to make the most out of your investment.

Personally, I can't wait for this (if true). I agonized over which version of Resident Evil 4 to hang onto, as the GameCube version had the edge in terms of graphics and controls, but it was missing all the bonuses that added for the PS2 version (which is now kinda glitchy running on the PS3).

A 480p widescreen ultimate edition of Resident Evil 4 with (possibly) enhanced graphics and controls would be sublime.

Besides which, don't forget... Not EVERYONE has played RE4 yet. If the Wii succeeds in drawing in non-gamers, it's unlikely any of them will consider this game a "been there-done that" deal like many of us might.

It's also unlikely many Wii games will approach the graphical level of RE4, so it's not going to look dated, even years from now.

How many survival horror games on the Wii look better than RE4? Exactly.

Give the Wii some more time. It's only a young machine yet, like all consoles in the history of gaming, the best games for systems are released after a console has been in the market for more than one or two years.

Yes Crest, I read it. You think that the Wii is 'last gen' and doesn't deserve to be called 'new', I know that - I purposely avoided bringing that into it further because it's an argument that I don't want to get into. All I wanted to get across was that posts like your first one are pretty unnecessary, especially from a good poster like yourself.

that sucks.. i paid $100 for a second hand LE gamecube version in december..

He has a point, though - basically everything of value on the Wii is a last gen game with Wiimote functionality. Doesn't mean this will always be the case, because it clearly wont, but there is a little too much porting at the moment.

I tend to agree with that, Dances. Hrmm, let me put it this way:
I agree with the opinion, I just dislike the way it was expressed icon_smile.gif

I want a Wii, but mostly for the old SNES and Megadrive games on the VC. I understand the tech isn't bleeding edge, and in terms of performance and complexity of the titles, it won't touch the 2 next-gen consoles.

Aside from Metroid and Zelda, the games will probably be fairly juvenile Mario / Wario / Schmario party compilations, but RE goes against this grain. I only brought a GC for the RE games and Rogue Sqaudron, which were some of the few western-adult games on the GC that didn't have better versions on other consoles. With the GC, and from what I hear the Wii, a lot of the conversions are second rate, so to get a Wii HC gamers need those adult exclusives.

I think that the Wii needs an innovative RE game.
