NiGHTS "confirmed"

Wii Rumour | A mate I knew told me that his friend told him...
Spong claims to have spoken to representatives close to the rumoured NiGHTS project. An "anonymous source" has apparently confirmed that the project is a full game, not just a remake of the original game, and that an official announcement is imminent. The game is apparently intended as a Wii exclusive.

Lending credence to the rumour is the revelation that the game is apparently not being developed by Sega. Prope, founded by Yuji Naka (the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog), is instead believed to be developing the game. This fits with comments from April 2006 by Famitsu that NiGHTS was to be one of Naka's pet projects, to be released on the then-named Revolution. However, this contradicts a very recent advertisement by Prope to hire developers, where Naka explicitly said that Prope will not be developing any sequels to Sega properties.

While it is possible that the new game is not a sequel (therefore making Naka's statement technically correct), it does confuse matters somewhat. As the discussion clearly demonstrates though, despite never achieving strong sales on the Sega Saturn, NiGHTS retains a place in gamers' hearts and hopes.

Aren't Spong known for their amazing ability to post more fabricated stories than real ones? icon_shifty.gif

Or am I thinking of a different site?

"Prope, founded by Yuji Naka (the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog), is instead believed to be developing the game."

If this is true, I'm suddenly a lot more excited.

Yeah, Spong tend to make things up if they have a vague chance of being true anyway. How well will Nights fit in to current consoles anyway? It would have to change a fair bit.

If its true, Sega are stupid for not doing it with Sonic the Hedgehog game, PROPE is basically the old Sonic Team

It's probably true, but 'spong' and 'confirmed' are an oxymoron.

I love how adding a " in front of confirmed and after basically means, not confirmed.

With this much news about it, fans better not be dooped.

Nights! wow, now that's more like it - Nights is exactly the type of game that can make the most of the Wii.

Looking at the current selection of titles coming through - they all look pretty average to me. Forget the mainstream stuff that fits better on XBOX 360 or a PC - Just bring on Nights, a new version of Okami, Trauma Center and some cool Jedi knight game that can really benefit from the Wii. icon_cool.gif

Hey what about reviving Time Crisis, Virtua Cop, Point Blank, Crypt Killer or House of the Dead?

Maybe mix in Samba De Amigo 2, Vib Ribbon 2 or maybe Jet Grind Radio 2?

Or Burning Rangers, for that matter. Another excellent Sonic Team game that didn't get the attention it deserved.

Did anyone get Feel the Magic (Project Rub)? You could get a NiGHTS costume for your lady. I'm just saying. How long were they thinking of revisiting NiGHTS for? It makes me wonder.

We have the next Radiant Silvergun on the Wii - it's called Ikaruga, and it comes on a GameCube disc.

Sonic Pinball Party on GBA had a whole pinball table themed around NiGHTS. Which is saying something, because it only had 3 tables in total (the other two were Sonic and Samba de Amigo themes).

Will they make expansion packs for this, like they did for the saturn version?

Despite never producing a sequel, NiGHTS has been a common recurrence in many Sega/Sonic Team games.

Sonic Adventure: NiGHTS Pinball table (with hidden chamber)
Sonic Adventure 2: Flashing neon NiGHTS building, posters
Sonic Adventure 1 & 2: Flying chao evolution resembles NiGHTS
Sonic Pinball Party: NiGHTS theme pinball table
Sonic Riders: Unlockable character
Phantasy Star Online: Cameo in special mission, and also downloadable GBA minigame
Sega Superstars: NiGHTS flying game (sucked)
Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg: One of the creatures you could hatch

I'm sure there's more I've forgotten.

I've always thought it was bizarre that NiGHTS has shown up in so many different titles over the years, and yet they've never even attemtped a sequel (it would have been a perfect title for the Dreamcast).

Given the right man at the helm (Yuji Naka), this could be a good return to form for the big "S," and if they have any brains at all, give the Sonic series back to the man who started it all.

You guys lower the credibility of this site when you cite Spong. I know you marked it as a rumour, but there are normal rumours and then there are Spong rumours.

You should have a look at who you use as a source.
