Resident Evil Wii on track for 2007

Wii News | More announcements to follow.
Capcom has confirmed to Chris "Nintendo" Kohler that Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles is still on track for a 2007 release on the Wii. It is not clear at this stage whether the game will offer a totally new storyline or simply fill in plot holes in earlier games. However, early reports suggest that it will include a number of chapters from the earlier Resident Evil games.

Chris had previously covered Treasure Island Z, a mix between WarioWare-esque hand-waving and a full length adventure, staged on a cartoonish island filled with treasure. After speculating that Capcom must be regretting committing so little to the Wii, Capcom contacted Chris Kohler with some clarifications.

In addition to the confirmation that Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles is still on schedule, Capcom also confirmed that they have a number of other unannounced games planned for release on the Wii in 2007, with "at least one" being announced within the next few weeks.

Awesome, more love from the Cap. If only they would share the love and show us Resi Evil and Devil Kings 2.

Awesome news. Hopefully it will hit PAL this year too.

I really think the Wii controls would really really suit RE4 type gameplay. I would love to seem them re-use the RE4 engine and create a new chapter with Wii Controls. I think that would be an awesome expereince.

This is good too though icon_smile.gif

Man, Capcom are really going full-tilt this 'gen'! So many games across all three platforms... great stuff!

I hope we get some actual details on Umbrella Chronicles sooner rather then later, my curiosity is was up about it. Especially if it means going back to some earlier times for background plot-hole filling!
Also, there's the expectation that they'll bring a bit more to the table graphics-wise than other games have so far. Bring it on icon_smile.gif

To tell you the truth I don't see how the Wiimote would be more suited than the analogue stick. Its not like I didn't feel apart of the game with the standard controller.

Sorry I can't source this but I remember reading that Capcom have plans to reuse the RE4 engine.

And that can't be used with the Wiimote why? You move around like RE4 and point to shoot.

That was an aside.

I didn't say you couldn't use the Wiimote, I just disagreed with leon when he said that "Wii controls would really really suit RE4 gameplay".

It will be different, but I don't think it will be necessarily better or more suited.

To one's opinion. Personally after using the pointer, I went back to standard controls and god was it slow, using the Wiimote just feels more natural and fluid.

Capcom was one developer who made the Gamecube shine brightest last generation. I have no doubt that anything they touch for Wii will be solid gold.

Good news.
And dopple ganger is right. The remake of the first resident evil was amazing. Even the graphical power. And that was with a gamecube.
Being that the wii is more powerful hopefully capcom can show us why.

Well the cube was more powerful than PS2, and since then Twilight Princess has shown us what that little purple box was capable of

I can't either, but I do remember this being stated also. Obviously I'll be looking forward to this and I have no doubt that Capcom will make it great through the Wiimote functionality.

Since when was Twilight Princess the shining example of the Cube's capabilities? It isn't (besides, Wind Waker looks better than it anyway).

Can't wait to see more of RE UC and this unannounced title, though I hope they don't get overshadowed by releasing late this year.

Then tell me what IS the shining example of the cube capabilities. Wind Waker in NO way looks better than TP

I would have thought that Resident Evil 4 was the shining jewel in the Gamecube's crown?

Resident Evil 4
Metroid Prime & Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Viewtiful Joe
Pikmin 2
Resident Evil Remake

and both Zelda games, though comparing Wind Waker with TP is like comparing chalk and cheese - two very different styles and two very gorgeous games

Resident Evil 4, Starfox Adventures, Rebel Strike set the benchmarks for the gamecube. It'd be nice to see a Wii game at least come close for once (Though I expect Capcom to better their previous effort on the more powerful hardware).

Capcom was easily the best developer for the last generation and well, judging by what they have on the pipeline for all three current generation consoles, the trend that they have set is looking like it will continue. I have full faith in Capcom to deliver this game as one of the best games for the Wii this year (and that's going up against Nintendo's big-guns) and I will dare say that after Resident Evil 4, it will also be one of the first games to truly show just what the Wii is capable of graphically, aurally and whatever else in between. Maybe I'm not as much a Nintendo fanboy as I used to be, but I am looking forward to this more than I am both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, so there you go.

For the record, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption > Super Paper Mario > Resident Evil Wii. These are the titles that will be selling the Wii to me this year, having Mario and Brawl as well is just an added bonus. (not to mention 'lesser' games such as Excite Truck and the like)

The Wii, like all other previous consoles by each company, will have a period where the games don't express the full potential of the console.

Give it time.

Fixed. icon_wink.gif

Personally I think Resident Evil 4 was the best looking game last gen.

That other new Wii game looks pretty cool aswell. I always have alot of fun when I play Capcom games and they are nearly always very challenging and technically very solid. It's been this way since Mercs and Street Fighter back in the day and they have never waned. They have had a constant stream of releases ever since always of high quality and they are never biased about which consoles they support (seem to have support for every major console out).
