NiGHTS flying to Wii?

Wii Rumour | Next month's UK ONM may have the scoop.
The latest issue of the UK Official Nintendo Magazine contains subtle allusions of an unannounced 'return' for a time forgotten franchise, 'world exclusively' revealed in next month's issue.

Investigations and scans of the next issue's preview page provided by Go Nintendo reveal that the game in question itself is none other than NiGHTS - although whether this is a port/remake/Virtual Console release of the now classic decade old Sega Saturn game or a whole new instalment in the longtime singular franchise, is another question entirely.

Nevertheless, apart from clever Photoshop overlays providing tangible, if slightly still wishful evidence, such exclusive news would make sense in the mind of any NiGHTS fan - after all, it was only recently that Sega had a poll on their website asking which one of their dormant franchises should be revived next, with NiGHTS gaining the most votes by a fair margin.

However, keeping in mind that the current issue containing the preview for the NiGHTS exclusive is the April issue of ONM - a magazine month renowned for untimely dodgy attempts at April Fool's 'jokes' at the expense of a readership's wild speculations and naivetey - and ONM could either have unfortunately coincidental coverage of 'a classic game making a long overdue return!' or a murderous Claris loving mob on their hands, come next issue.

It sounds like an April fools joke, remember World of Starcraft?

If it turns out to be true though HELL YES! NiGHTS was a truly underated title.

Titles like Nights, Blue Stinger, Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon and of course Shenmue never got the credit they deserved due to Sega being on a downward spiral in the markets when Sony was working on world dommination

The reason Sonic has stayed alive was because of the legacy he built for Sega during the Mega Drive era

NiGHTS on Wii and DS both make sense, hell a port of the original NiGHTS for the DS using the touch pad would be enough to satisfy me

I still think Shenmue deserves to be revived more than NiGHTS since it stopped when the story was finally getting really interesting.

This rumour is more like a recurrent dream, shuffling to the fore every couple of months. I dearly hope it is true, as NiGHTS trippy visuals and addictive high score chasing were a highpoint of SEGA's dark Saturn days. I'd hope SEGA invites NAKA to direct as NiGHTS really was his opus.

I really hope Ryo can track down Lan Di, avenge his father and finally accept some loving from the hot girls that throw themselves at him in Shenmue. Truth be told renegadesx I'd prefer a sequel to any of the games you mentioned over the final chapter of that quicktime event (FREE?) saga.

Ngamer scan (Ngamer is not ONM)

Fool me once, shame on you! fool me twice, shame on me!

.....three times?
(EGM is not Ngamer nor is it ONM)

JasonMCG sent in a little blurb from the latest issue of EGM. His email said he included a scan as well, but it looks like he forgot to attach it. As soon as he gets back to me with the scan I will update this story. The text from the issue reads as follows.

“If this Month’s Wii feature isn’t enough to get you all hot and heavy, then next issue’s selection of upcoming titles should do the trick. Some of these games are so secret that we’re forbidden to drop hints for the fear of PR ninjas (yes, they exist) dropping into the office to test the limits of the human spinal cord.”
3 different games or all the same one? I guess we will find out shortly!

Famitsu rumoured it a year ago. A sega fanboy's dream. Hopefully the mag pulls it off.

So many reasons why this rumour could turn out badly...

I'm just gonna hope ><

My gut calls shenanigans.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I've been waiting for a sequel for so long with no luck. NiGHTs is probably the only game I've played that made more of an impression on me than SotC. The potential for sequel on the Wii is incredible. The whole A-life thing (not sure what it was called) could be really cool if they put the effort in, and imagine how cool acrobatics could be with the Nunchuck/Wiimote.

Dang, now I've gone and got all excited over what is probably just some malicious editor's idea of fun. If they do make it though, I hope they REALLY take as much care with it as Nintendo do with the big Mario games. An average NiGHTS sequel would be worse than none at all.
