Four new titles added to Virtual Console

Wii News | Three Mega Drive titles released.
Nintendo Australia have updated the Virtual Console today with Gradius, Bonanza Bros., Comix Zone and Gain Ground.

Gradius was originally released for the NES and is available for 500 points. Bonanza Bros., Comix Zone and Gain Ground were all originally released for the Mega Drive, so they're available for 800 points.

These games are available through the Wii shop channel immediately, it's very likely that Europe will get the same lineup of Virtual Console titles, we'll let you know either way later today when the European Wii shop updates.

ooh, Comix Zone.

is that worth getting?

i remember back in the day, when my school was a Nintendo Fanschool, and i was but a mere peer-pressured schoolboy, thinking that it looked cool, but since it was a mortal sin to own a Sega console where i was from, i never got it.

opinions appreciated.

I was reading yesterday that the VC has now overtaken XBLA in terms of the number of titles released, and it only took them a fraction of the time. I wish MS would get themselves into gear and release titles at the rate Nintendo are!

Me and my school was all Sega, Comix Zone was a very good game

Comix Zone is in my head for some unique reason - can't remember why though. Maybe one of those games I found too hard and gave up.

Gradius is good and was available on a range of platforms including PSX so its probably easy to find an original in some format for $5 or some amount close enough.

Hey guys isnt Link to the past on the GC Zelda collectors disc? Just buy that if it is and pickup a few other titles on the same disc to boot.

You did not have to type that renegadesx... it kind a goes without saying right? icon_razz.gif

Only disapointment for me with Sega was the sound issue and slow blury passive screen in the Game Gear - Ive got 3 and all with little or no sound now. The Lynx is best - all arguments against are welcome and easily repelled!

Loved Master, Mega (dont have a Nomad though), Saturn & DC - some games where bizaro unintelligable - but all totally entertaining. Platforms & fighters second to none, porn was just quietly ok. icon_redface.gif

Must remember to pull out that boxy head boxers game...

Quality over quantity IMO.

I thought I wanted these old games, but playing them again cetainly leaves a bit of aftertaste. Games were a not user friendly in the old games.

I just d/l Comix Zone and it seems ok. Its a little challenging and i think you only get one life and then its game over.

I was also thinking of d/l Ristar but im not too sure if its any good, anyone here played it?

Quite some time ago, according to Wikipedia's lists.

Although I'd have to say I think they're just diverging and becoming entirely different services, and will become less comparable as time goes on. It's pretty obvious in some ways - one is for arcade and arcade atyle games with online and whatnot, and the other is for console games. It's much easier to release a VC game then what MS requires (and costs - apparently it costs US$100K just for the license), and there's new content on XBLA, and onlince features. But Nintendo will have a massive advantage in terms of both nostalgia and library, and IMO if you're comparing retro libraries Nintendo already wins the quality award - Mario 64, Castlevania 4, Super Probotector, Gunstar Heroes, R-type...

Overall, IMO you can just think of them as complimenting each other. What would be the point if both had the same games at the same price with the same features?

Ristar is a great game, lengthy, quite a challenge (not as challenging as Comix Zone it sounds, as it has continues, lives and such), you can definitely see the Sonic similarities (visual/character wise), but i actually liked it more than Sonic. Well worth a download IMO
EDIT: and this view is coming from a someone who grew up with Nintendo icon_smile.gif

Blast! this is going to annoy me unless I can remember what it is about Comix Zone that was so special. It had some unique feature but I cant remember what? Is there a famous easter egg or something? - Nothing shows up in google but trust me there is something unique about that game. Anyone?

it was unique cause your playing through a comic book, i mean you are actully playing through a comic, Boxes and all.

EDIT: i know what i mean but i think someone needs to translate what i said to english.
