Wii News | In Japan, but will it be the same here?
Nintendo's Japanese website has outlined that there will be 23 new Wii titles on the marketplace for Japanese Wii owners by the end of February.

The biggest surprise in this list is that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will cost Japanese gamers 1200 points, making it the most expensive title on the Virtual Console. Other titles set to come out before the end of February include Galaga and Streets of Rage.

The full list of titles that Japanese gamers will soon be able to play on their Wii includes:

NES:
Galaga
Kirby's Adventure
Mighty Bomb Jack

SNES:
Fire Emblem: Genealogy of Holy War
Kamaitachi No Yoru
Shin Megami Tensei
Super Ghouls 'N' Ghosts
Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV

N64:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Mario Kart 64

Mega Drive:
Bonanza Bros.
Gain Ground
Comix Zone
Bio-Hazard Battle
Streets of Rage
Beyond Oasis
Vectorman
Sword of Vermillion

TurboGrafx-16:
Soldier Blade
Vigilante
Chew Man Fu

That's weak. Sorry, I normally stay away from debate, but that outright sucks. As if Nintendo haven't made enough money from Ocarina already.

Haha, they know that it's the most wanted virtual game so they decide to make it pricier. Bastards icon_razz.gif

The sad thing is it'll sell just as much regardless.

They're charging £8 for something that came free with Wind Waker? What ever I have it on the GCN and N64 so they can keep it. I guess the price isn't that much, but it seems expensive for something I have twice already. 3 times if you count Ura Zelda. They should have included that in the cost of it. icon_biggrin.gif

^ Exactly, anyone who's gonna be buying a Wii will almost definitely have it for N64/Cube, but yeah, we all know it's still gonna sell well. icon_neutral.gif I certainly won't be getting it though (Zelda Collector's ftw), not for that price.

Is it true that A Link to the Past costs 900 Wii points?

A worrying trend for games that are actually worth downloading on the VC (if you haven't already played them to death).

No, it's 800 like all the other SNES games icon_smile.gif

Excellent. I was beginning to worry I may end up on an odd number of Wii points following the download. icon_biggrin.gif

This seems a rather ... interesting... move. Considering they have given away the same for free in two different occasions before. I wonder it if will include Master Quest, or if that will be a separate VC title next month?

Ah good I got the Collectors Edition Wind Waker which was limited copies. Ocarina in it icon_smile.gif. Damn the grafix suck though, how big is ocarina?

Actually I heard in Japan A Link to the Past will cost more

But from what I have heard these price increases are just for Japan (OoT as well)

Quite a few games in Japan have cost more than the standard price, but that hasn't transferred over to anywhere else yet, so I think we're safe with Ocarina.

Fairly big, for an N64 game. They packed a lot in. icon_smile.gif This price is just too much though, most people would already have a copy. I've still got the GCN version that came with WW.

This is the best example of Nintendo just wanting to cash in. If anyone is actually deluded enough to think that Nintendo really 'care about gamers' then should open their eyes.

How much is 1200 Wii Points to money?
i have the Master Quest disc, but if OoT goes through the same cleaning up that Mario 64, and MK64 did (and at this stage i don't see why it wouldn't receive the same treatment), the i would seriously consider buying the VC version as well.

however, if the price is bumped to 1200, i'll probably not buy it on principle, as their press release when the Wii was launched said explicitly:
Nintendo Au">Virtual Console games range in price from 500 Wii Points for NES games to 800 Wii Points for Super Nintendo games and 1000 Wii Points for Nintendo 64 games. SEGA MEGA DRIVE games will be available for 800 Wii. Wii points required for titles available in 2007 may vary.
ie: not "from 1000 points" but "1000 points".

however, as it was said, the price on Japanese VC seems a lot more variable than elsewhere in the world, so it's probably a non-issue.

$18 AUD.

so $3 more than "normal" N64 VC prices.

To me, $18 doesn't seem like that much money for a game that has been widely considered one of the best of all time. Especially if you consider you can get Doom off the Xbox Live Arcade for $13.20 - it's not a lot more money for a lot more game. I can understand though why people who already have a copy wouldn't want to pay for it again, but I never had a N64 and there are plenty of games on there I'd happily pay for - goldeneye, pokemon snap, LoZ etc. It's a shame there isn't a way you can register your prior ownership of the titles, like reading a serial number off the cartridge or something to unlock the download (or at least give you $10 off or something)

Do we have any idea yet as to the pricing of the Playstation Network downloadable titles?

Agreed, I never had an N64 either and would happily spend 1200 points on Goldeneye/Perfect Dark/etc., but since Nintendo have already given me a port of OoT for free, it's simply the psychology of then paying for it that puts me off.

Though, as David says, it'll probably be touched up quite well, though I'm not familiar with what exactly that entails... does it mean it'll be better than the straight port to the Cube was?

I like the idea of original cartridge ownage should allow a free download.

I think people's (at least mine) gripe is that Nintendo marked up the price of their most popular game. Thats what I call a low blow.

yeah, that's essentially my issue with it.

i would not object if it were a re-issue of a game, plus some newly created extras*, but even for just cleaning it up, and increasing the resolution, paying more simply because it was a popular game on release irks my principles, and voting against it by not buying it is really all i can do.

*not necessarily new content either, i guess.
i'd be willing to pay N64 prices for Super Mario Allstars, and if this is OoT+MQ, then i'd consider spending the extra 200 points, but not for OoT on its own.
As a general rule, 1000 points for N64 games really isn't that bad. I'll be sure to pick up several games I missed during from those days. The SNES and NES games are the overpriced category, being significantly older than N64 titles with far less technical prowess.

However, simply jacking up the price by 200 points because its a popular game is just arrogant. I wouldn't have bought it anyway (own three cartridge copies, the WW special disc and Collector's Edition disc), but it's a damn shame that those who may have missed out now get charged extra.
I thought VC games are released "as is", so wouldn't a clean up/extras be out of the question? IMO if anything is done to Zelda they should go back to games like Mario Kart and add online play.
it's kind of "as is", but the 2 N64 games released so far (M64, and MK64) have both been cleaned in as far as the resolution has been bumped, and therefore look much crisper than the original games.

this is the most i'm expecting of Zelda, but my point was that if they were to add more content, then i'd consider paying more for it, but given Mario and Mario Kart received only cleaning up, then i don't see the need to charge extra for Zelda, if that's all that has too.

The Wind Waker edition (and presumably the Collector's) had the resolution increased. So the Wii version will be that same version. Although I presume the PAL version didn't have progressive scan (haven't checked it out since I got component cables), so might be worth getting the VC version for that reason alone.
