Street Fighter II and Super Probotector on Virtual Console

Wii News | Two SNES games make an appearance.
Super Probotectorand Street Fighter II: The World Warrior were both released on the Virtual Console this morning. Both games originally debuted in 1992 and were on the Super Nintendo, so they will set you back 800 points a piece.

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior focuses on Ryu and Ken as they face M. Bison. Super Probotector (aka Contra III: The Alien Wars) was developed by Konami and is an action title. The game has six levels and features multiplayer support.

I do not agree with the OLFC thinking they should re-classify already classified games before going on VC, they should just let the ones they did in the 90's go straight through with the ratings they already had so they can focus on classifying some TurboGraphix titles and actually look at the new content they classify. Giving Manga Cum Laude a RC, obviously meant they did not play it.

I think when a lot of these games came out originally (excluding later N64 titles) the ratings system for games was really in its infancy, so many of these games are actually being rated properly for the first time.

Plus, they also rehashed the rating system a couple of years ago to make them more in line with movies. So, all those old 'low level animated violence' etc got replaced.

they are getting rated again - because

1. things have changed in the last 10 years.
2. the same people don't work at the OFLC

from what i know they hardly ever play the games anyways - the developer has a hard copy of all the details of the game which they send in for the OFLC to read.

they can get fined if they hide something from the OFLC.

Both of these games would be worth my money. If only there was vs online for Street Fighter.

That would rock. icon_smile.gif Well, you never know, there is an update button in the VC shop, perhaps they will implement online modes into some games.

Game raters today are idiots. If they dont play them then you dont deserve to rate them.
Let them keep the ratings like as if the origionals were getting re-sold at cashies. You dont see them getting re-rated.
Because they are not the same people doesnt make them better, just ask Larry Lovage

Get Streetfighter on Xbox 360 if you have the option, it has online play and it's in HD.

Super Probotector is frickin' awesome however.

Ads - That update button is to update the games list on the Virtual Console, I don't think it'll ever be used to update your copy of the game. I don't see that ever being a feature of Virtual Console, Nintendo have enough problems getting the Wii games online let alone the VC stuff.

That's correct. Nintendo said the Virtual Console is only being used to port games, not update them. Online play is a major update which I don't think is possible.

Personally, I think the VC is a complete rip-off. The only games I'd be interested in paying $15 for are games that never made it to Australia. The problem is NINTENDO ARE NOT GOING TO RELEASE THOSE GAMES IN AUSTRALIA! What's the point then?

Actually they generally put in quite a decent amount of time into games, although it depends on the genre. Online games pose a problem because the game experience changes, hence why that is expressly stated on the package. So yeah, this idea that the OFLC just read a piece of paper and then judge is, to put it simply, false.
