Nintendo predicts Australian Wii shortages

Wii News | "I expect demand to outstrip supply soon after launch" says Nintendo bod Vispi Bhopti.
With the Wii launch less than twelve hours away, we thought we'd ask Nintendo's spokesman, the excellently named Vispi Bhopti, about the Wii's supply. We enquired as to whether he expects the Wii to sell out before Christmas, to which he replied, "I do expect demand to outstrip supply soon after launch."

A couple of days ago, the Herald Sun reported that 30,000 Wii pre-orders had been laid down. On that figure, Vispi commented that, "We have never actually confirmed 30,000 pre-orders for Wii. This figure was an approximation by the Herald Sun. It is in no way an official or confirmed figure."

We did our best to try and determine how many units were shipped to Australian retailers, but Nintendo won't be publicising this figure, though independent numbers should be published next week by GfK.

Melbournites interested in attending the midnight launch tonight are advised to head down to Chadstone, where there will be giveaways and pleny of competitions.

Not surprised about the numbers there, they probably wouldn't know any way.

My only concern now is that I have been spelling Bhopti's last name wrong for the last few weeks! Damn you silent H your days are numbered icon_biggrin.gif

Apparently my local Target is sold out with only enough for pre-orders... but they're probably only getting 10 (prediction based on living out whoop whoop), so it doesn't really surprise me.

They were at least taking names for the next shipment though
