30,000 Wii pre-orders for Australia

Wii News | Time to get nervous if you haven't pre-ordered.
The Herald Sun has revealed that more than 30,000 Australians have preordered the Wii. With the console now only days away from release, we're starting to wondering when we'd hear something about the pre-order figures.

The Xbox 360 sold 30 000 units in four days, so the Wii is likely to become one of the quickest-selling consoles in Australia, which is definitely good news for Nintendo. We'll be kicking off our Wii reviews in the next few days, so stay tuned to PALGN for the latest.

Not nervous one bit icon_razz.gif I'm waiting for a price drop (and more games). But all signs point to yes for Nintendo this time around.

The Xbox 360 wasn't lucky enough to have "Try before you buy" expos before it launched, but it also isn't in the sweet spot for hardware pricing.

Hmm, maybe I should put down a preorder...

I think that in PAL regions the Wii could very well win this round. They easily could win Japan too, the hype was just too great to say they wouldn't have a successful launch. But only time will give us a definite answer

One of those pre-orders are mine, 360 hasn't done so well mostly because the price is not worth what you get, just like why the PSP isn't doing well.

The Wii is cheap enough, Im not getting a 360 and will wait for a major price drop for the PS3

If you're going to bring up the 360 in a Wii thread, at least do it without ignorance. "Not doing well" is a bit much to say when it's been the fastest selling home console in history here, with over 100 000 sold in 6 months. If you haven't bought a 360 because you don't think it's good value, then so be it, but don't generalise (and make false assumptions) for the rest of the population.

I went to Chermside JB Hifi yesterday to Preorder. He said that they were getting 48 Wii's in, but only 4 people (I was the 5th) preordered. I find it hard to believe 30,000 have been clocked up. I'd say that they would be out of stock on that weekend for sure, since Thursdays and Saturdays are their busiest days.

You find it hard to believe? It's right in front of you.

Just because The Herald Sun says something doesn't mean it's right. They have "30,000 preorders for Wii" in their headline, yet nothing of it in the article. No source. Nothing. How they can count every store's preorders and colaberate them into a figure is beyond me - seeing as JB just took my name down on paper and that was it.

How often do we see bogus figures in missinformed newspaper articles, Luke? Don't give me this **** "It's right in front of you."

They obviously spoke to Nintendo, hence why the Nintendo PR guy is quoted in the article, why are you ALWAYS such a cynic?

I preordered mine way back in June. It's close now people!!!

One of them is mine to YAY

One is mine too, yum. EB here on the Gold Coast have closed preorders for games (zelda and a few others) and consoles. A huge sucess, Wii60 all the way.

Yeah Ive preordered I was something like number 36 for EB in the Myer Centre Brisbane and that was over two months ago.

I really believe its possible that if Nintendo can get 100, 000 units on shelves in Australia before Christmas they will sell that many.

I must congratulate Nintendo on their Marketing strategy this time round all retailers have heaps of display media and the Wii Remote add keeps coming on the cricket every hour......

Which is raising awareness massively..

3 days to go

I don't see how people seem happy to call that pre-order figure BS because non-gaming shops aren't rolling in pre-orders. The people making pre-orders are predominantly gamers, and most gamers know that the stores getting the lions share of the consoles are the ones dedicated to games, not the Big Ws or the JB-HiFis...
The few EBs that I've been to recently have been getting stacks of pre-orders, and are expecting fairly large turnout for the midnight launch(es).
I don't think it's that hard to believe that there could be 30,000 people out there with pre-sale receipts for the Wii.

^^ I agree. There would be at least 30,000 Nintendo fans easy and ready to give them a dollar.

Some of us burnt by previous generations of Nintendo consoles may wait a long time before giving up hard earned dollars.

How have previous nintendo consoles burnt you exactly?
how has being a Nintendo Only customer NOT burnt you is the real answer/question and really unless your a fanboy of nintendo's you
would fid it very hard to have one of there consoles as your only console,
you miss out on too many of the best titles.

I'm no fanboy ive always owned more than one console. If you didnt own a nintendo console you would also miss out on some of the greatest games.
