Virtual Console Service goes live

Wii News | TurboGrafx titles miss the cut.
With the Wii now officially launched in America, some details have filtered through on the Virtual Console capabilities of the console.

According to Wired the setup for purchasing Virtual Console games was painless. Twelve games have been released, although there are no TurboGrafx titles available. You can choose to list the downloads by system or alphabetically.

The twelve games that made the cut (and thus should be available for PAL gamers too) are:
  • Donkey Kong (NES)
  • Legend of Zelda (NES)
  • Mario Bros. (NES)
  • Soccer (NES)
  • Pinball (NES)
  • Wario's Woods (NES)
  • Solomon's Key (NES)
  • F-Zero (SNES)
  • Sim City (SNES)
  • Altered Beast (GEN)
  • Sonic (GEN)
  • Super Mario 64 (64)

The list should be updated every Monday, so hopefully by the time the Wii console launches in PAL regions there will be more titles available. One other thing worth noting is that the Virtual Console titles are automatically stretched, and you'll need to adjust your TV ratio everytime you start a new game; we're sure this issue will be sorted out though, or at least we hope so.

Automatic stretching? Re-calibrating each time? Argh! That sounds massively shoddy...
This better be addressed (or explained, as I may well have missed the point icon_smile.gif)!

Definitely should have Ocarina there, what with Nintendo execs constantly making comparisons between "the great one" and Twilight Princess.
