Nintendo not troubled over Microsoft and Sony

Wii News | "Let 'em do it." - Reggie Fils-Aime.
In an interview with News.com, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime expressed that he isn't concerned about Sony and Microsoft's battle for the spotlight in living rooms across the globe.

"[Sony and Microsoft are] trying to do centre-of-the-living-room, entertainment hub" Fils-Aime stated. "Let 'em do it. We want to bring gaming entertainment to every single consumer, no matter how much you play, whether you are great at gaming or just coming into the industry, and so for us we revel in going in a different direction. And so when people try and compare and contrast between the three - know, we're doing something very different."

Fils-Aime also dismissed rumours that Nintendo had one last "super secret" announcement to make concerning the Wii console before its highly anticipated launch in less than a month worldwide.

"No, no wonderful secret announcement." Fils-Aime then joked, "At least not one that I'm aware of, so then it would really be a secret."

Amid concerns that there may be supply shortages during the Wii launch period, Nintendo appear to have no reason to fear Microsoft or Sony, at least not at the moment.

Yeah, I have been less than impressed with the 360 and with all the delays (and price) about the PS3, I really couldn't care less

May buy one or both in a few years time, but not in the immediate future

They need not be worried their worst enemy is themselves.

They don't need to worry about Sony and Microsoft. They're only like, some of the biggest and most powerful companies in the world. Nothing bad.

I have agree considering the launch price of the console, virtual console prices and the fact that the Nintendo Wii is region locked.

True, but they have said from the start that they don't intend to compete with Microsoft and Sony. It may have been a good idea, the Wii is very popular.

Oh c'mon, I must be super immature, all I ever see is Wii innuendos/puns. What they/you don't understand is, no matter what they say, they will STILL be competing against Microsoft and Sony. A video game console is a video game console, no matter how powerful, unique, wacky it is.

^Exactly.
They may not be wanting to compete against MS or Sony, but in the end they will be, because the core of the Wii is gaming, as is the PS3 and 360. The fact that they're also going up against virtually the biggest computer company and one of the biggest electronics companies SHOULD have them worried. And the Wii isn't all that popular. Maybe on gaming forums and such where the hardcore lie, but the general consumer barely even knows about it.

*sigh* All three companies think they are in a league of their own.

But Nintendo should be worried of at least the PS3, as the PS2 sold over 105 mil, with Xbox with 24 mil, and GCN with 21 mil (but with no regonition). That is a MASSIVE installed base with the Sony brand, and though Sony are making mistakes, there is a possibility the PS3 could be a hit again.

But then again Nintendo has a massive stock of Wii.

Still, it's only a possibility at them moment. They have to launch the thing first. Time will tell.

I don't think that there is all that much for time to reveal - the Playstation already has a huge installed base of fanboys, rabid for the next installation regardless of the quality (not to suggest that the PS3 will be bad), and countless other gamers acheing for the next 'next-gen' console.
I personally think that the gap between the three will be narrower this time around, simply because the rising cost of games will force more producers to multi-console releases, somewhat lowering the massive amount of exclusives that the PS2 had (has), But still, the 360 and PS3 will more than likely reign supreme again just because of the graphical prowess and the fact that they have 'normal' games on them as default.

If the PS2's install base is so important, then explain why the DS is outselling the PSP? When it comes down to it, the casual gamer will decide. Not fan boys, not hardcore gamers. We'll have to wait and see.
