CNN sign up with Nintendo for Wii news channel

Wii News | More Wii channels to be added and DVD playback to be put back in?
According to Neogaf, the latest issue of EDGE magazine has a few interesting Wii tidbits, which are sure to get mouths talking. First off, CNN has signed up with Nintendo as the provider of the news content on the news Wii channel in America & Japan. Apparantly news will be presented by category, but you'll also be able to spin the weather globe to find stories for different countries.

Sega have also moved a "significant number of development staff" from the PlayStation 3 to the Wii. The magazine also states that although Nintendo have removed DVD movie playback from the Wii, the company is planning to launch in Japan next year an enhanced Wii which is capable of playing DVDs; so much for those households who already have DVD players hey?

The magazine also confirms that there are still plenty of Wii channel slots remaining to be filled, so we could see the Wii channel expand quite quickly if it takes off. More as it comes.

Why not CNNNN

^haha I'd get an extra Wii and leave it perminently on CNNNN 24/7 if there were such a channel!

This is good news though, the news and weather channels are interesting to me, as I often spend quite a lot of time just on google news. To be able to go between countries on a virtual globe and read country-specific news on a home console would be exciting and ideal for me.

If they ever pull out a Panasonic Wii, I'm gonna go break one of mine game cube discs.

We'll see what happens. DVD playback isn't exaclty exciting, but expansion of the Wii channels has promise. CNN are a great news service, so this is good news. icon_smile.gif

I would love to see this Wii channels thing get expanded on. A Wii kids channel? A Wii music channel? A Wii comedy channel? I'd hit it.

It's convenient and would save me having to unplug the Wii and plug in the 360.

They've got to make a Wii channel for non stop pong. Doesn't speed up, and the two players never beat each other. Just goes on forever. Also, they need a channel for non-stop fish cam. That would be sweet icon_surprised.gif

Hopefully the BBC will do something useful with the £130 I have to pay every year (the crooks!) and become the news service for the UK Wii.

OK, a news channel, good, but expansion of channels to music, etc will not happen, imo.

I don't actually have a valid reason - I just don't think it will happen. The Wii is not a cable service.

Sounds like another Panasonic Q.
