Australian Virtual Console Games list?

Wii News | And is Wario making launch here?
Nintendo fansite Vooks has been keeping an eye on the Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) to uncover any info about the upcoming December 7 Wii launch. Since everything released in Australia must pass the OFLC's classification process, and their usual turn around is six weeks, the launch titles must start to turn up soon, at least that's the theory.

Well, it seems to have paid off. "We've been keeping tabs on the OFLC site for any Wii games and it seems Nintendo has added 7 'Classic' games to the list, which have all been classified as G" said Vook's Daniel Vuckovic. And while it's not certain these games will make launch or be all that's available, it means they will all turn up some time soon. All are NES and SNES games, and all have been rated G.

Here's the full list

  • Mario Bros.
  • Donkey Kong
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • Pinball
  • F-Zero
  • Simcity
  • Super Mario World

Quite a short list, we think you'd agree. And the three NES games are such ancient single screen affairs we hope there's some tiered pricing within the NES category. Are there more to come, or does this mean Nintendo will be staggering game releases so as not to overwhelm buyers? We'll find out soon enough.

Curiously, Japanese Wii launch game Wario Ware: Smooth Moves has also been listed, despite not coming to the US at launch. Does this mean we'll be getting Wario Ware before the US? A few years ago, we'd have said 'not a chance' but recently Nintendo's releases have been quite timely, culminating in Australia receiving the DS Lite before the US, so we wouldn't rule it out.

More as we get it!

It would be great if Warioware made it here for launch... Simcity wasn't something I expected to see on the virtual console list, certainly not this early

David, did you go a bit dislexic? You have 'OFLC' and 'OLFC' written various times. which one is it!? icon_razz.gif

Honestly, Super Mario World is the only one I would download out of all of them. Bah!

^ I won't be needing to download it Jim, as i will probably play it on my SNES anyway icon_razz.gif

& i don't like to admit it but i will most likely be downloadin these:

# Mario Bros.
# Donkey Kong
# Donkey Kong Jr.
# F-Zero

missed out on the NES era & never really played F-zero b4, thinkin i should start from the original icon_razz.gif

I think a more suitable list, to make me happy at least, would be something like:

Super Mario World
Yoshi's Island
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, 3
Secret of Mana
Legend of Zelda: OoT
Yoshi's Story
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Mario Kart SNES
Banjo Kazooie
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Conker's Bad Fur Day

and the list goes on..

It's at this point that I point out that Nintendo also had the second Kirby GBA game rated by the OFLC - and it is still yet to see the light of day out here.

Good point there. That bolded list of yours, Dare, is similar to what I would say, I own all of those games as well, and play them when I can. icon_smile.gif

I really, really hope NTSC SNES titles come out here. Final Fantasy 4/5/6, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound (did this come out in PAL territories?), Dragon Warrior, Mario RPG.........

If its PAL region specific, it will blow.

Wonder whether they will have problems with games that came with FX or Mode 7 chips?

^ Doesn't seem like it if recent reports are anything to go by (http://palgn.com.au/article.php?id=5444).

Pretty stupid though. I really don't see how hard it would be for Nintendo to fix up publishing rights and whatnot to release games such as Earthbound here. I can understand the Japanese VC game mainly because of the language barrier, but NTSC games in English not coming? Seems like a stupid move.

You'd think Mode 7 and FX using games wouldn't be a problem, seeing they're been successfully emulated for years now.

Have any details about the presentation of the VC titles come out? As in, will they be up-scaled/down-scaled/FSAAed/interfered with in any other ways, or will they be as faithful to the originals as possible? I'd like to think that they'd be un-tampered with, but you can't take anything for granted these days...

Off the record, I spoke to a Nintendo affiliated person who said we can possibly get NTSC games that never came out here (like Earthbound and Chrono-trigger), it's just that the versions we get will be PAL coded.

It makes sense. They can't have a blanket policy to release games worldwide because the licence and distribution rights of certain games are owned by different companies in different territories. Konami games won't be able to come out in Australia without Atari/Infrogames approval, for example. And licenced games like Anime are owned by a million different companies woldwide.

So it's up to third parties as to who gets what. It seems highly likely we'll get all of Nintendo's own games like Earthbound eventually.

Now if only they'd clear up the 50/60Hz buisness...

Hey guys I'd like to point out we wont find out about the N64 games this way, Since they are the same game they dont have to reclassified and thus wont appear on the OFLC site.

We will be waiting on Nintendo for this one.

Actually, Nintendo owns the code of Goldeneye, the only problem is that Activision now owns the Bond licence.

Why would online Goldeneye suck?

'Cause nowadays, it is, technically, an inferior game? That's the only valid reason I can think, and that wouldn't bother me, it's a classic.

I know the chances of some of them are slim to none, but hey, that's what it'd take to make me happy (plus much more)..

^ It wouldn't suck per say... It's that console FPS controls have come a long way since then. I went back to GoldenEye not so long ago and couldn't control it at all.
