Red Steel multiplayer information revealed

Wii News | Wii speaker to be used a fair bit.
Red Steel has undoubtably been the top game on the list of many future Wii owners since it was first announced. At E3 Nintendo revealed the Wii controller's in-built speaker, and this gave the crew over at Ubisoft some new ideas to implement into the title before it is released alongside the Wii.

So we needed a different mode," lead designer Roman Campos-Oriola said to Eurogamer. "At E3, when Nintendo unveiled the speaker on the Wii-mote, we thought, 'Okay, with this speaker we can make a really different, specific game mode that you can only have on the Wii.'"

It had been previously been announced that Red Steel multiplayer would include deathmatch and team deathmatch modes but the "specific game mode" which Campos-Oriola mentioned is entitled 'killer' and is "almost like classic deathmatch - you frag people and score points - but each player has a specific objective that gives you bonus points."

When playing a Killer match, apparently the Wii-mote will act as a telephone. It will ring and when you place it against your ear, you will be given your mission objectives without other players being able to hear what it is.

"If you manage to achieve your objective, you'll get bonus points; if you can't do it, you'll have negative points," Campos-Oriola further explained. "One objective could be, 'Kill player number four and avoid killing any other players.' If you kill any player before killing number four, you'll have negative points. So while you are looking for player four the other players might shoot at you, but you can't shoot back at them. It's really interesting and really adds fun to a standard deathmatch."

Campos-Oriola also revealed a few more snippets of information concerning the Wii controller’s in-built speaker. Apparently, the speaker will also be used in the story-mode and will click when you are out of ammo as well as play a different sound effect when you reload your weapon. In the more anticipated moments of the game - when you're using a sword, the speaker will also emit a noise when your sword receives damage as well as when you do damage to your opponent's sword.

At this stage, Red Steel is due out from day one of the Wii's launch.

Hey, that actually sounds pretty cool. Not sure why a developer like Ubisoft knew nothing about the speaker until Nintendo revealed it, but its good to see them using it.

Also, if it wasn't already, this pretty much confirms that we are constantly going to look like complete morons while playing the Wii.

Thats a pretty awesome idea, are nintendo go have anyway we can chat like online through a mic or something?

That is awesome news.
Before this i didnt know which launch game i wanted most, now i think Red Steel has been put to the top of the list.

We will look so stupid, but that would be so much fun. Cant wait.

Agreed. This goes out to all Wii games for me.

I must admit, I wasn't even looking at Red Steel, but the more I hear and see of the game, the more I'm thinking of buying it over Rayman... But I'll wait and see because I'm not fully into first-person shooters, I can play and enjoy them, but I need something different in them to enjoy it because the market it flooded with them. In Red Steel's case, the sword play has me interested.

This confirms my purchase of a second wii remote and nunchuku controller at launch!!!! When Ubisoft said in a recent press statement that they hoped Redsteel would get the same kind of attention as Goldeneye on the 64, I think they will!!!

Everytime some new info comes out about this game it makes me want to get it more... goodone ubisoft for another great idea.

Anyway it doesn't matter what you look like when your playing, as long as your having fun (plus no one is going to see you except the other people palying, because you have to have the curtains closed anyway! lol)

Pfft, not online, not playing multi.

Red Steel will be a 'average' game that will hit mid to high 8s in the rating cause it's new and different. I pretty sure I'll pass on this.

I'd like to think that Red Steel will be at least a little above average, seeing that Ubi seem to be putting a hell of a lot into it - but time will tell I guess.

It's my additional launch title of choice (after TP), seeing I can't get any kind of confirmation that Elebits will be here for the 7th.

Maybe they're implementing the Far Cry AI into it..? That would be good.

*vomits*

Don't get caught up in the hype over Red Steel. I'm not forming my opinion until I read some reviews.

My interest for Red Steel is a rollercoaster ride.

And for the Hype for Red Steel? Well Nintendo are making this title stand out because of their image... you know how it goes.

The good news is we'll get about a hundred reviews of the game before it hits our shelves, so we'll have a few weeks to see whether the hype will die or increase.

I just think Red Steel's is lacking in creativity. It looks like a Japanese want-to-be game done by the west (which is exactly what it is). Ala Jade Empire (I know ppl love this game, but I thought this game was very lacking).

Watching the videos makes it look nasty, the player is always pointing in a direction many times to make the screen move.

Anyways, I guess I'll hold off on completely writting it off until I see some reviews.

i think you and others need to see the NEW new vids:

http://www.jeuxvideo.tv/red-steel-video-26366.html

that is from the most updated build of the game(video=2days old) and shows better graphics, smarter AI and smoother controls. watch all 4 vids at the bottom.

then there is this:

this video(also shown at the same show) shows how the game is played by a semi expirenced person, it shows how good you can be with that remote.

Wow, sounds quite nice indeed.

Still, I'm going to have to wait and see- I wouldn't want to buy REV-A of something so new and different. (And yet still be fairly underpowered.)

Just watched that vid Wii man and it looked pritty sweet (and a real in-depth story too:P), however the sword fighting looked flipping terrible. Hopefully it's just the way it looked, but yeah, if the swordfighting plays how it looks, I may stear away from this title.

I think they can pull off another "Goldeneye" with this as long as people know about it

I'm still really not impressed. The controller seems almost like a chore to use IMO.
