First screens of Wii Channels in action

Wii News | First English-language shots, anyway.
The nice folks at Yahoo Games have unearthed the first English-language screen-grabs of the Wii's various 'Channels' in action. Included in the shots are images of how the Wii's front-end menu will look, a 'Mii' avatar being created, a tantalising shot of the Virtual Console, a whole bunch of Mii avatars knocking about in a crowd, and also a system whereby users can leave memos for other people; 'Mom' says your ice cream is in the fridge, 'Tommy'. And probably melting, in that case.

Anyway, with just under seven weeks until Nintendo's new console launches in the US, we'll be seeing the real thing soon enough.

I'm warming to the menu system actually. On looking at it I just thought it's not Minority Report, but it seems to be cool it its own 'neat-and-tidy' sort of way...

This is such a "cute" interface.
I am starting to think the Wii is for my little nephew and niece.

The designer of such an interface is obviously a japanese whom
love his/her manga and anime.

Give me something better Nintendo, otherwise your system will
down like the Gamecube in two years.

Because you are representative of every single consumer out there?

Can anyone seriously be expecting to use this;

How does it make any kind of sense to be using a gaming device to leave messages like that?

I might want to leave messages to myself reminding me of the Ice Cream I left in the fridge, I should have put it in the freezer instead.

Unfortunately, I never actually have any Ice Cream in my fridge or freezer so I won't need to leave such messages to remind myself about it.

HAHAHA, I don't think anyone would use this! Except my writting a message to my brother. I couldn't write it on here because the post will be deleted icon_razz.gif

Xbox Live features avatars for individual accounts. icon_kero.gif

EDIT: And yes, the memo system is plain daft.

Let's all talk about Sony's Online interface, oh wait, can you actually go online with the PS3? That's right, they are too busy copying M$ and Nintendo's ideas.

Not unitl I punch your "kiddy" face in, in Wii boxing. You play as your avatar remember?

The Market? The fun market.

Are you saying kids would me more liable to read a message left around the house somewhere than a message that pops up and stops them from playing their precious games for a few seconds? icon_razz.gif

If you Mii Avatar carries across games like Wii Sports and such it certainly could be interesting. I don't see those avatars are kiddie though... More like creepy, I guess I'll get use to them seeing them everywhere.

How about for once we actually talk about the Wii and not always come back to taking the piss out of the ps3?

That whole memo thing is just odd.
"Mum,
Don't erase my Zelda file or I swear I'll kill you.
I ate all the ice cream btw.
Love you."

It's a very nice interface and such though, it's very neat looking and 'cute'.

Doubt ill be using any of the crap the interface provides.

But i could see nintendo's demographic of nongamers in japan i.e mums, dads leaving memo's on the wii.

This thing is desighned from the ground up, and will be marketed as a Home Machine / gameing console. Thies features only help Nintendo accomplish this, and so why should we complain?

Ah.. your Miis do go in Wii Sports. And in Wii Play and Wario Ware. And probably Wii Music and Wii Motor Sports too, and anything with Wii in it's title.

Hopefully developers find good use for it. One vote for Miis in Smash Bros.

icon_lol.gif @ Frozencry's memo

I don't think the interface looks kiddy icon_kero.gif
It's no more childish than the Brain Age interface, really... it's simplistic, the colours are muted (it's not particularly bright and colourful), the sounds are fairly sharp-sounding beeps and clicks (there's no "squidgy button press" or anything else like you might expect from a childish interface)... easy and accessible, yes, but not childish.
(It's obviously not designed by "a japanese whom love his/her manga and anime" - the Mii channel has no cool anime haircuts icon_razz.gif)
It isn't screaming "leet" all over the place, which is a shame, but I saw that coming icon_neutral.gif

As for the Memo system, apparently it can be used to send messages to (or is that receive messages from?) other Wii consoles, so I might find myself using it quite a bit, if that's true. Otherwise no. icon_razz.gif

LOL - spot the Nintendo fans.

Well as for the "fun market" thats all a matter of tastes.

Wii boxing with "Kiddie" avatars isn't my idea of enjoying a video game experience. If its yours good luck and have fun.

Apparently you can also send messages to the Wii from email addresses, and mobile phones too, that i like icon_biggrin.gif

& I TOTALLY agree with Hyperworm's response, easy and accessible doesn't = kiddy

Now that i think about it, i would like to see some cool anime haircuts

Who here actually likes the idea of making a Mii character a representation (or 'as close to' that) of yourself?
I just want my character to have my name, AND looks like me, is that too much to ask?

Needs more blood maybe? More sex? It's sounding like people want a 3d modeller in the Wii so they can accurately portray... something. I'm happy with an avatar that vaguely looks like me or whatever.

I don't see how its "teh kiddie!!11!!111one!1", but, if it is, then who really cares? Clearly you're not interested in playing any of the Wii _______ games, so you'll probably rarely (never?) see them anyway.

Have you seen the Wii avatars? They're crap. Even by online character creator standards they're sub-par.

Wow.......they look lame.

I don't wanna look like me.I wanna look like someone different. And judging by everyone else on this forum and other forums across the whole net, so does everyone else.

Well isn't that one point of gaming anyway? I'd rather be an all powerful elven sorcerer rather than my usual self when it comes to playing an adventure game or something. This whole avatar idea IMO takes away too much of that imagination.
