Wii set to launch with 27 games

Wii News | Launch list continues to expand.
It's been just under three months since Nintendo last regaled us with a list of the games that would launch alongside its next-gen Wii console later this year. Since then, there's been a few additions, with announcements from the likes of Ubisoft seeing the Wii launch line-up swell from 16 to 27 titles. Thus, with decent news currently as common as rocking-horse dung, now seems like a fitting time to carry out a quick recap of the titles that'll be available to us as we're picking up our new consoles in two or three months.

The list in full:
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender
  • Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII
  • Blitz: The League
  • Call of Duty 3
  • Cars
  • Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
  • Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
  • Elebits
  • Excite Truck
  • Far Cry
  • GT Pro Series
  • Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • Madden NFL 07
  • Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
  • Metal Slug Anthology
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
  • Monster 4x4 World Circuit
  • Need for Speed: Carbon
  • Open Season
  • Rayman Raving Rabbids
  • Red Steel
  • SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab
  • Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
  • Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
  • Trauma Center: Second Opinion
  • Wii Sports
Nice. It's especially encouraging to see a strong third-party presence (23 of the 27 games are coming from companies other than Nintendo), something that makes a pleasant change from many other Nintendo launches of the past. Incidentally, the usually pretty reliable [Cough - Ed] Wikipedia has a list of games in development for Nintendo's machine - all 151 of the blighters.

That's pretty decent, of those titles I'm interested in:

Twilight Princess
Metal Slug Anthology
Red Steel
Super Monkey Ball
Metroid Prime 3
Call of Duty 3
Elebits
Dragon Quest Swords
Rayman Raving Rabbids

All in all, it's a pretty good list for a launch, the best I've seen in a LONG time.

Zelda, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy are worth buying the Wii for.

However, I doubt they will release all 27 games at launch date.

Bad business model, too many games/competitions and publishers doesn't like THAT.

I think some of these games will release within 3 months from the launch date.

This is actually pretty annoying. How the hell am I meant to afford all of these games? Added to that is the fact that the launch 'window' will also see a large number of awesome games.

Interested in:

Zelda
Red Steel
COD3
Dragon Quest
Elebits
Excite Truck
Final Fantasy: CC
Metroid Prime 3
Trauma Centre
Wii Sports
Rayman

I'm interested to see how Spongebob turns out too. It looks like they put a lot of effort into it, but I'm especially hoping they get the humour spot on.

Have to agree with your point that too many games at launch can certainly be a bad thing from a certain perspective. 27 is a lot.

Um are you sure these are confirmed? I saw this list floating around about 2 weeks ago, Square Enix has stated that FF Crystal is next year TBA.

It's a bit suss, since it's less than 6 months till the launch and we've heard jack-all about half these supposed launch titles. Especially the high profile ones such as FF and DQ, doesn't really bode well if all they do is slip under the radar.

Yeh FF Crystal is next year and it has also been stated that MP3 wont be a launch title ( dont know how true that is) but they arnt 'launch' titles they are 'launch window' titles so they wont all be released at once.

Out of that list, only four titles grab my interest. That's not bad, since none of the titles available at the launch of the Nintendo GameCube interested me.

hmmm, interested in:

- Dragon Quest (haven't played one game in the series yet, but a new console may change my perception of it)
- Elebits (interested in the concept, but unsure if i would buy on launch)
- Excite Truck (not really that interested in racing games, but who knows?)
- Final Fantasy (interested in controller aspects, & it has been known that the name alone sells like hotcakes icon_razz.gif)
- Twighlight Princess (this is on EVERYONE'S wanted list right??)
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance (unless its better on a different console)
- Metal Slug Anthology (compilation ahoy!)
- Metroid Prime 3 (again, never played a Metroid game, but this console may change that fact)
- Rayman (controller aspects look fun, not fully convinced yet)
- Red Steel (FPS's aren't really my thing, but again, Wii may change that)
- Trauma Centre (may intice me to buy the DS game?)
- Wii Sports (exercise icon_razz.gif)

VERY extensive line-up coming my way icon_biggrin.gif
But like others here, i need more money if i'm going to get the most out of the Nintendo Wise (W, two I's).

I really need to get a job, why won't anyone hire me? icon_mad.gif

I was hoping for another Rogue Squadron game, doing trench runs in Rogue Leader on the demo machine at Myer was what made me buy a gamecube. Factor 5 have a big TBA on their upcoming projects list, so maybe one day soon.

Other than that, the list looks great, hope they are all indeed available at launch or very soon afterwards.

* Metal Slug Anthology
* Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
* Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz

all these games look **** except for Wii Sports. I'm currently in training to the be world champion at Wii Tennis, for when a Nintendo Wii tour comes around.

^Just as long as you don't turn out like Lleyton Hewitt, then I'm fine with it. if you become anything like him though, I will castrate you.

I'm interested in a couple of games from there, but then again, IMO this list is hardly believable.

In our defence, we're not the only place to report a 27-strong launch line-up - some of the biggest and most reliable sites also have it up, including 1UP, digg.com and CVG.

If any of it turns out to be unreliable, we'll keep you updated.

I am going to have to disagree with the majority of you.. I am fairly happy that Nintendo has discided to release a range of different games, there obviously trying to reach a broad audience.

It is also evident that they are releasing so many quality games to secure an increase in sales while the console is set at a high price.

Anyways, the following games are what I'm after:

- Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
- Metal Slug Anthology
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers
- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Possiblly the following:

- Avatar: The Last Airbender
- Call of Duty 3

Digg.com isn't news site though, it merely links to other sites icon_wink.gif

The information provided is obviously from a reliable source, he is saying if the information becomes outdated he will keep you posted.

The info that is posted is obviously Nintendo's current plans. All game related releases are subject to change.. your playing with words champ

Its on my wanted list... but not my Wii wanted list. And unless something can convince me that the control scheme for this game wasn't tacked on as an afterthought, I'll be going with the Cube version.

Only other things of interest to me are Metroid Prime 3, Monkey Ball and, if they get it working how it should work (ie. freehand swordplay) Red Steel.
