Have Nintendo revealed the Wii release date?

Wii Rumour | More speculation just to make you cranky.
If you thought the speculation was over and people would sit and wait for Nintendo's September announcement on the Wii release date, you were wrong. What makes this speculation any different from the others? This time it comes directly from the video game company giant themselves.

In a recent press release posted on IGN Nintendo revealed their current fourth quarter of 2006 release schedule in America. However, they also hinted that the release date could also be found in the article.

The press release reads:

"The fourth quarter of 2006 will herald a new era for Nintendo with the launch of its remarkable new Wii home video game system. But that's not what this news item is about! How could that be, you ask? Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item. You might want to pore over it for a few hours before staying up all night to debate phraseology and comma placement with your friends online. Or maybe it's all just a scam to get you to read the other games we have launching this fall. One of the two.

As the weather cools down, the Nintendo portable game offerings heat up. FINAL FANTASY V ADVANCE makes its way to Game Boy Advance SP on Nov. 6. As series go, FINAL FANTASY is to video games what James Bond is to movies. FINAL FANTASY loyalists will enjoy an opportunity to debate which installment was best.

Nintendo DS owners are the big winners. Every week or so, another huge DS title hits, from the Touch Generations title Clubhouse Games to fan favorites like Elite Beat Agents and Yoshi's Island 2. Clearly a gamer's idea of paradise, here is Nintendo's upcoming DS lineup

Oct. 9 Clubhouse Games
Oct. 16 Nintendogs (Dalmatian)
Oct. 23 Magical Starsign
Oct. 30 Pokémon Ranger
Oct. 30 Children of Mana
Nov. 6 Elite Beat Agents
Nov. 13 Yoshi's Island 2
Dec. 4 Custom Robo Arena
Dec. 4 Kirby Squeak Squad

And, for Nintendo GameCube owners, The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess will be available for you this fall. An enhanced version also will be a launch title for Wii. That will all happen on... Oh look, we're out of space.

For more information about all of Nintendo's upcoming titles, please visit www.nintendo.com
"

Ironically, the press release fails to mention Super Paper Mario for the GameCube. IGN were quick to point out though that a game is released every Monday with the exception of October 2nd, November 20th and November 27th.

Is it fact or complete rubbish? As always, PALGN will keep you informed.

The Monday speculation is silly IMO - if the Wii launches on one of those Mondays, then what happens on the other two? It's not a very neat pattern.

Well the October date is before the list starts so that's out, and the others are after the PS3 hits so they'd be out too.
Yeah, the Ocotber date is the one for me! icon_smile.gif I'm counting on it.

If there was any sort of clue in there, which I doubt, its gotta be linked to the doesn't-really-fit-with-the-rest line about James Bond. Its just so random.

October 2nd seems way too close to when they are announcing the date. The November ones are after PS3, and surely Ninty are smarter than that.

I'm pretty sure its just a 'pay attention to me!' tactic.

It's amusing to see all sorts of sites (especially Go Nintendo) going crazy over all these rumours...

I'm dismissing the lot in waiting for the September announcement.

I'm dismissing anything that doesn't come straight from nintendo, to be honest. They're probably getting a kick out of this right now.

I am pretty over the whole "tee hee! Nintendo is being secretive" thing. I can wait a couple of months. Even still, when they finally do announce the release date, it's gonna be near the end of Oct/before Nov 17, so there's only a few weeks to play with. Hardly consequential to anything.

In any case, my vote is gonna stick to November 6.

Noticed in one of the latest catalogues (either Kmart or Target) they are advertising pre ordering on Wii. So it must not be too far away.

Well it's great that the anticipation is so high. Let's all hope some of the launch games live up to expectations.

Great line up for the DS too - I love my DS!!

I'm betting on November too.

I don't care when it come out, as long as it comes out soon.

Go November 27th! That's one day before my Birthday!!!

on bestbuy.com there is a link to a video about Zelda: twilight princess for game cube and for the nintendo wii being released on the same day
as the wii. It also says that they will releasing Zelda: twilight princess for game cube on 9/3/2006. Although last week it said that Zelda: twilight princess for game cube would be released on 10/1/2006. So I think that the wii will be released before or on 9/3/2006.

All I know is it is coming out before the PS3 and that is good enough for me. Well is hasn’t been said by Nintendo officially, but Nintendo reps say other wise.
Also I read somewhere that a game's coming out for the North American launch. This confirms either one or both of these things, simutanous worldwide launch is no go (I'm aware someone from Nintendo already said no) or release lists for different countries are going to be different (possibly a no brainer, but it'll have fanboys spitting chips before launch about having to import already).

Hmm that should give me enough time to save up. I'm too lazy to scour the forums for a retail price for the Wii, so could anyone tell me approximately how much it's going to cost?

Edit: Whoever said the thing about the Zelda release... Nice thinking.[/quote]

Edit2: I'll leave that random html code there so you can all laugh at it, I have no idea how it got there =(

It'll cost about $300 AU.

Miniumum would be $250, max would be $330.

Cool, all this time I'd still been thinking closer to $400.
Nintendo would have to be really stupid to release it at $400 - its so close to 360's price.

But then, Nintendo are pretty damn stupid sometimes.
$400 for Wii.
$600 for 360.

With $200 I could get myself a DS lite.

With that said, I'm hoping for $330.
Isn't it only $450 or $500 or something for the basic 360, though? I know most of us here wouldn't buy the retard pack, but joe average probably would.
Nintendo have explicitly said it won't cost more than $330. There are a bunch of indicators that say it will be considerably lower.
I still think the Wii will be $400. If Myer's catalog preorder specials are anything to go by, it will be $400 because they're given $600 worth of vouchers (what they are remains to be seen even after a brief question), and the PS3 is $1000 with $1200 worth of vouchers if pre-ordered. Then again, they did fail to mention which PS3 it was exactly (the expensive version or the REALLY EXPENSIVE version).

On a side note, if it is $330, that's basically a DS Lite and two games.

Hopefully they'll have a good launch pack at around $400 with a game or two and whatever else.

^ Yeah, if Wii comes with Wii Sports it would be nice.
