E3 2006: Super Smash Bros. Brawl screens

Wii News | Plus: first info on Nintendo's beautiful fighter.
Nintendo has opened a homepage for the upcoming Wii game Super Smash Bros. Brawl called the Smash Bros Dojo, and inside there are some screens, heaps of info on the game, and even a trailer. We've already reported some of the surprises from the show (such as new playable characters Solid Snake from Metal Gear and Pit from the NES classic Kid Icarus), but the website has a few more surprises for fans.

First up, the graphics are pretty amazing for a game of this type. Player models are far beyond current generation levels of detail, and while we don't get a good look at the environments, the textures we do see are sharp, and the geometry detailed. In some of the screens the lighting seems a bit off, yet in others it looks great - this is to be expected for a game that's more then a year away however. It really looks like the first Wii screenshots we've seen that look far beyond what current generation machines could handle, and given the insanity of a Smash Bros game, it's actually quite strange that this is the game that wows us with it's player models.

The next surprise is a bombshell - famed Final fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu will be writing the soundtrack. Super Smash Bros Melee had a grand feel to it's music, so Uematsu's dramatic style will fit Super Smash Bros Brawl perfectly.

We'll have more on this as the website is updated and we get our reports from the show, in the meantime check out the damn screens!

Nobuo Uematsu?

I'd buy this for the music alone.

EDIT: Saw the trailer

All I can say is:

Metaknight? Oh F**k yes.

Is that a Nintendog in one of the screenshots?

Sure is! Pit and Meta knight look like great additions to this franchise(asthetically).

Looks superb..

Pit & Meta-Knight look great; Snake from Metal Gear i aint soo sure about (i need to see some pics of him actually doing more than saying " Its show time!" to be fully convinced).

Also, the moment you saw Samus (in the Zero Mission suit); did anyone else get the image of a female jedi (i.e. lightsaber thingy)? Or was it just me?

The minute I saw the litesaber thing I thought Jedi too.

Hmm... I wonder what that Nintendog is, surely it's not going to be a playable character....

The Nintendog is an item that does exactly what its doing in the video - acts adorable on the screen so you can't see whats going on.

So like the Blooper in MKDS - but cute! Awwwwww

I can see when Snake is on 130% and his shield is broken and i'm falling and aiming to throw a homerun bat right at him ftw and then a nintendog comes up and throws me off and i fall off the stage he will cease to be cute.

Completely awesome! That trailer is excellent, I'm glad to see the graphics have made a good leap forward, that's what I was hoping for. icon_biggrin.gif New chracters are alright, not sure about Snake though. The new Samus looks pretty cool, I like the bit in the video! Can't wait to get my hands on this, let me at it! icon_biggrin.gif Online play is going to rock! I'm glad I've got a fast internet connection, from the looks of the game, a lot of data will be transferrred at once, and I don't want lag. icon_biggrin.gif I'm very glad to hear about the control style, it sounds as though you can use Gamecube controllers with the game, which is something I was hoping for, I was dreading using the Wii remote to play it. They said they didn't focus on the use of the controller all that much.

Meh @ SSB games - as I've said before here, never understood the appeal. The trailer is pretty good though, love the bit at the end where Snake is reconnaissance duty; nice touch. icon_lol.gif

Pit looks cool ... if he plays well I might have found an a new character icon_smile.gif
(since Quin already reserved Meta-Knight icon_razz.gif)

On another note, discussion about this game seems to be spread over at least three threads, and the discussion is very similar in each. icon_lol.gif
Can't we organize it a bit better somehow? icon_kero.gif

I loved Powerstone, good point, I've always liked the alternative fighters, where you can move more freely and use items! I guess that's why I like Smash Bros. so much, aside from the fact that it has all my favourite characters in it fighting it out! icon_biggrin.gif

Wow, the Snake surprise was good enough for me when I found about that. Now Nobuo is behind the music too? This game just jumped up a few more spots on my anticipated list. Damn that's awesome news.

Samus is HOT!

Wow, just wow. I'm actually pretty amazed at the graphics comparedto other Wii shots I've seen, like the texture work on Mario, his overalls look awesome, and Link's texture work is brilliant as well. Can't wait to play as Pit though.
