E3 2006: Excite Truck info

Wii News | Successor to Excite Bike lookin' good.
One promising game shown in video form at the Nintendo conference was the expected Nintendo racer - but instead of the usual Wave Race launch game, Nintendo have spun off the Excite Bike series into a more muscular form - Excite Truck. Nintendo had this to say about it : "Remember tilting your arms while playing Excitebike to try to make your character land a huge jump? Well, that experience is finally a reality with Excite Truck, a wild, off-road race only possible on Nintendo's Wii console". First hand reports suggest that the game is ultra fast, so some wild motions may happen when playing!

You control the game using just the remote turned sideways, by tilting it left and right you turn, but tilting forward and back you adjust your rig's landing angle when you fly off a jump. So far this sounds like it could be done on the rudimentary tilt sensors Sony recently added to the new PS3 controller, right? Well, there's a twist - you can move your truck midair by jerking the Wii-mote forward and backward, and a pushing forward motion may give you just the extra distance you need to land over an incline. Not the most realistic physics, but that's hardly the point.

In the media panel you will find a screenshot of the game, as well as the now standard 'model playing the Wii' image, and also some art and the logo.

Saw this at the Press Conference, and it didn't really wow me. After taking a closer looks at the screens they don't look all that bad - the environment's fairly detailed as is the truck (though the lighting needs a bit of work) I'm sure at the fast pace of the racing most of the graphical flaws are overlooked anyway. Not a fan of racing games personally though, so it's an inevitable pass.
