Revolution to keep you up at NiGHTS?

Wii Rumour | Just what is Sega up to...
This week's edition of Japanese gaming bible Famitsu had quite a few interesting tidbits, including their reviews of Tetris DS and the long, long awaited Mother 3 (they received scores of 9/9/8/9 and 10/9/8/8 respectively). But probably the most exciting bit of all was buried in a 'rumour' section. It's worth noting before we go on that the rumours section of Famitsu is usually more of an 'insider secrets' section, and more often then not what they report there is entirely true.

The word on the street is that Sega's Sonic team has been working days and 'nights' on what may just be many people's reason to buy a Revolution. That's right - a sequel to the Sega Saturn classic NiGHTS Into Dreams is allegedly in the works for Nintendo's upcoming console. Famitsu's sources claim that Sonic Team had planned a sequel years ago for the Dreamcast, and it would have come with a “tilt sensor” controller, but they had to drop the project due to the untimely death of the great console. The Revolution's 3D controller will be able to do what Sonic Team was hoping for and more, so we could finally see the continued adventures of Elliot and Claris. Mother 3 released, a good Tomb Raider sequel and a Dragon Quest game PAL localised? If Duke Nukem Forever turns up at E3 we'll be looking over our shoulders for the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

We are of course hoping for more on NiGHTS 2at E3, so stay tuned for PALGN's extensive coverage of what may be the biggest event in video game history so far [that's your hyperbole quota for the month – Ed].

You know, I'd actually believe it too. I mean, if Sega is on board for the Virtual Console which they are, then we could be seeing the original game and its sequel on the Revolution. Maybe I am dreaming, but damn I'd love it if that happened. More reason to anticipate this year's E3 then. icon_biggrin.gif

Supposedly Mother 3 was reviewed last week icon_wink.gif

But anyway I remember playing the NiGHTS demo at my next door neighbour's house many years ago, and I can't wait to relive that experience and for Sega to create a sequel to it icon_smile.gif

OK, calm down.

NiGHTS, and a version that doesnt require pushing your thumb bone out through the finger to play. The shread of hope I have clung to all these years is reignited.

'In a dream, I can see you are not far away!
Any time any place I can see your face.
You're that special one I've been waiting for.
And I hope you're looking for someone like me...'

Consider me as excited about the revolution as I have ever been about anything... I just hope Sonic Team can reclaim the magic without Naka...

From what I've read, it's being made by Naka's team. He left Sonic Team, but has his own group within Sega icon_smile.gif

NiGHTS was naka's followup to Sonic. Based on german dream philosophy Sonic team explored the ubiquitous 'flying dream'. NiGHTS used his acrobatic skill to loop and carwheel through lush environments. A platform free platformer that encouraged old school 'score/time attack' gameplay through linked acrobatic combos: NiGHTS had Sonic's speed AND elegant control that was heralded by the first analogue controller from Sega. With an A-life system that pre-dates Tamagotchi, and a related stunning evolving soundtrack NiGHTS unconventional premise truly broke new ground. Given the Saturn's waining popularity, an audience who was expecting SONIC 3D and comparisons to the brilliant but completely different MARIO 64 NiGHTS was appreciated by too few.

NeoGAF, a fair few people posted / quoted that Naka only left Sonic Team, not Sega entirely and has a new team.

Question is, can I pull off all my A-Ranks all over again?

I remember getting 201 link on Frozen Bell and 297 on Soft Museum... That stage kicked ass.

That brings up a good point though (for those of you who had memory cartridges to fit the "A-Life" data, that is).

Remember how the music changed depending on how you interacted with the Nightopians? I wonder if they'll keep that system, or even improve on it. Each level had about 5 sections of music, with each section having 4 different variations depending on the Nightopeans' mood - giving each level dozens of possible medleys.

That was awesome - even though I only recently found out that most of the music I got which I thought was credit to my "l33t sk1llz" was actually because they were all p*ssed off with me!

"Oh yeah... Sorry about that whole 'paralooping too close and sucking you into a vortex' thing back there... My bad..." icon_confused.gif

Awesome news.

You people who run this site are doing a damb fine job at providing unbiased info. Ive been over at IGN since it was 64. That site has faded badly, their so damb biased its not funny.

So this is now my first stop for info

Surprisingly enough, NiGHTS didn't have S-Ranks.

If they bring Reala back, I hope 8 seconds is quick enough for that tasty x2 score bonus.

Nights was a good game, but it gets dull after awhile.... to me, that is the case.
